Hanbei bug - No advanced training.

So I'm doing my 3rd playthrough and this time Hanbei doesn't offer me advanced training. Normally I'd do all 3 basic ones, free combat, then new skills would unlock, and then the advanced training session. Right now I only have all 3 basic ones, plus Mikiri counter and Vault over. I did them all again and the basic training, I'm not unlocking advanced stuff like spam deflect or countering sweeps. Anyone else?

Dont you need to encounter the first general mini boss to unlock the advanced courses?

I'm about to kill the dragon already, so I will assume that's not quite the trigger. Or maybe I must unlock basic training before beating the miniboss?

Same issue, 2nd 3rd and 4th playthroughs so far. I suspect that unlocking Mikiri Counter and Vault Over somehow interrupts the point when he's supposed to offer Sweep Counters and such?
