How Sekiro draws his Sword
*Sorry for the wall of text, but all these details are important*

In my playthroughs I came to observe something fascinating,
that probably only very few players ever noticed.

It's about the way Sekiro unsheathes his Katana.
It only stood out to me, because I was very focused on the sword fighting
of this game. I'm very interested in swords and the art of wielding them and that's why
I always observe with great interest how these things are displayed in videogames.

The first time I noticed it was at the beginning of my third playthrough.
In the cutscene before the first battle on the fields with Genichiro-sama,
I concentrated on the way Sekiro drew his Katana.
I observed that before he drew it, he needed to feel where the hilt is before
he gripped it, like someone who hasn't wielded a sword in a long time.
This was probably because of his time down the well. He probably hadn't
trained with a sword in a long time and had become a bit rusty and that's
why his grip was so hesitant and shaky.

Then the second time you fight Genichiro-sama on top of Ashina Castle,
I again watched the way Sekiro unsheathes his blade.
This time he was more proficient, he didn't have to feel for the hilt first,
because now he knew exactly very it was and what he wanted to do with it.
He had regained some of his skills with the sword and in that
had grown more accustom to his blade once again.

The third and last time you fight Genichiro, on the fields where you lost
your arm at the beginning, I again concentrated on his sword drawing skills.
This time he gripped Kusabimaru with certainty and determination, he drew
the sword in a fluent and skillfull manner like only a true swordmaster can. Through
all the battles he had fought since his defeat by Genichiro, he had gained experience
and refined his skill with the Katana. Now he was ready to defend the divine heir and
restore his honor.

I hope some of you found this little observation of mine interesting! I would love to know if anyone else has noticed this and what they think about it. Maybe some of you will now keep an eye out for this in their next playtrough. :CrossedBlades:

These kind of details are what I love so much about the games FROM SOFTWARE creates.
To think that they would go to such length and include such minute but brilliant details that probably only a very small amount of gamers will ever notice.

>Katana with a capital "K"
>Genichiro-sama

Call the weeb police

Also don't apologize for long posts, reading isn't a chore, this is what discussions are for.

I did write Katana with captial "K", because I'm german, in our language every noun, place, thing or name is written with a capital letter. I know that it is not the case in english, but sometimes this habit just transfers onto englisch and that's why I made this mistake.

And I'm not a weeb, I called Genichiro, "sama" because I'm used to calling people with their title. Genichiro-sama is in my opinion a better way of adressing than calling him Lord Genichiro.

My sincerest apologies, didn't meant to wrongfully accuse such a respectible person as you of being a weeb
No need to apologize for recognizing that someone is using terminology which is profound in certain cultures. Him being an weeb stands clearly out, true that. And, like most weebs, he doesn't even know how to properly use honorifics and other stuff and claims random sh*t.

"-sama" is used to address someone like:

- an customer (he isn't)
- someone of HIGH importance (like the King, etc.) (he is a peasant, dear god, and got adopted into the Ashina clan, not even being high poisition, just was some leader, check the item: "Remnant: Genichiro" for more information regarding him)
- Gods and god-like figures (like I said: he is a peasant and below Tomoe in every regard)

So here you go, filthy weeb. Get schooled.

Besides that: No, your thread doesn't make any sense and you should just regard your observation as pure crap, as you forgot everything regarding the situation and everything else which made it "seem like" him having issue handling his katana.

edit: btw, where the hell did you get that he is an "Lord"? He has no title! Like literally an peasant which is good at combat and got to lead some random group which didn't even had any reasons to be named or talked about...

I still don't get why I'm a weeb?

I'm just Interested in swords and never claimed to be an expert...

I just wanted to share my observation with others who might be interested in this sort of things, too.

"...got adopted into the Ashina clan, not even being high poisition, just was some leader..."

I know that Genichiro was born a peasant, but this doesn't change the fact that he is now, in the game, the highest ranking person in the Ashina ranks, except Isshin and that's why he deserved to be adressed as a person of high importance. Besides even in game he is adressed as Genichiro-Sama by certain characters like Emma and Kuro.

"...you forgot everything regarding the situation and everything else which made it "seem like" him having issue handling his katana."

Then could you please tell me what I forgot and what is causing him to have issues with his katana?

He commands the entire Ashina army. He's not the leader of "some random group."
Gyoubu asks for his forgiveness, and Shume Masaji calls him "Lord Genichiro".
Kuro and Emma call him "Lord Genichiro" as well.
What are you even talking about.

My guess would be that he's a troll, his senseless aggressiveness and impoliteness for no apparent reason surely prove that much.

If Drake will ♥♥♥♥ on your observation, then i guess i'll tell that it's fine so you woudn't feel as bad. I rewatched all 3 draws multiple times, especially first one and what you're saying might be the case, but we can't know for sure.

I think its possible. Fromsoft is the type to focus on these little details. Its reasonable that Sekiro would be a little nervous about having no practice for a long time then suddenly having to fight a highly trained swordsman, while also worrying about his lord.

Thanks for contributing to the conversation with these videos, they are really helpfull.
I only played the game with german voice acting, and in the german version they call him "Genichiro-Sama", so that's what I called him.

I think what he means is, that Sekiro(which means one-armed wolf) is a nickname that was given to him bei Isshin Ashina, the last boss. And Chris seems to dislike the last boss "Sword Saint Isshin" so much that he refuses to use that nickname...strange logic indeed xD
