Blocking feels unresponsive
Just getting to Lady Butterfly and i've started to notice a huge lack of responsiveness in blocking. Half the time I try to block but Wolf doesn't actually block. I'm having to spam the block button in fights just to get it to work. Tried different controllers so I suspect its the game. Anybody else notice this? It's keeping me from advancing.

Not really? Blocking timing seems perfect to me. Pretty easy to get a grasp on it once you're used to it. In fact Lady Butterfly drilled into me the basics of parrying until i won against her by parrying almost every single attacks she made...

If you're playing on a TV screen it may have a setting called game mode, this reduces any screen lag to minimal and will help greatly with responsiveness.

It's not really so much as of timing issue, as it's more of an issue when I press block, it doesn't. Every other action seems fine, besides the blocking action.

Thanks. It feels more like a gameplay issue but i'll try this.

Blocking and parrying in sekiro is very responsive.
Are you trying to just block or specifically parry? Those are different things.

Just holding the block button well... Blocks. You prevent the attack, but you take posture damage.
However timing it just before the hit turns it into a deflect (or parry), which takes reduced posture damage, deals posture damage to the enemy instead and you also cannot get posture broken as long you perfectly time the deflects, even if your posture meter is at the breaking point.

You can distinguish deflecting from blocking by a louder "clang" it makes as well as intense sparks.

The fact that you changed controllers excludes possibility of broken controllers (unless all of them are broken) and IMHO blocking / deflecting in sekiro is very responsive so... I'll have to suggest there's something OP doing wrong.

Just to check: are you sure you are not trying to deflect when you are in the middle of another action?

^pay attention to this.

You can´t block while attacking. your attacks are fast, but are still an open window to get hit. When you try to block during your attack animation your block won´t come up until you finished your attack which could be the.... unrespeonsive delay you explain.

In this regard sekiro is quite punishing if you are button mashing and are constantly locked in your own attacks.

Interestingly enough, Sekiro is actually less punishing in this regard. In soulsborne you were absolutely 100% locked into your attack the moment you pressed that button, in Sekiro you can actually attack cancel by blocking, but only as long as Wolf haven't done the swing. If he only prepares to swing (which is like 0,1 - 0,2 of a second) - you can actually cancel that with blocking.

No, I'm literally standing there. I press block (not deflect) and he doesn't actually block. As in it doesn't even do the block animation. Sometimes takes me pressing block 3 times before he actually does.

I'm bad at the game, but the issue is that it's literally not responding to inputs for blocking. Just wanted to see if this was a common issue before I uninstall/ reinstall.

Thanks all.

I'm a little bit confused. Block and deflect are the same button, the function simply changes based on timings.

So you are saying he literally refuses to raise his sword when you press the corresponding button? That really sounds like an issue with your controls.

You don't own the game on Steam, are you playing on console?

Deflecting an attack is blocking it at the right time. It's literally the same button.

Sounds like a controller issue then. The game as perfect for me.

and all those people claiming they "family share" have that issue, weird, right?

I'm having a lot of issues with this game, I was fighting the same boss and the game froze for like 3 seconds (which is not unusual for this game in my experience) then it just becomes completely unresponsive to my inputs which cost me the fight, very annoying. Either a game just sucks or te game is good but held back by technical issues

I have not experienced any glaring technical difficulties in my 3 playthroughs. Are you sure you PC is good enough to run it? Could be system instability too.

Try to press L1 to test when you're not in the fight. If your character raise it's sword (or listen to the little *kaching sound cue) every time then it means you are not doing something right.
