Are NPC quests more/less obscure than in Dark Souls?
I am definitely going to play Sekiro down the road. If I play blind, are there chances that I am going to miss out on a lot of content, without counting the multiple endings? If the answer is "a lot", should I maybe check a guide everytime I finish an area, to verify that I did not break any NPC quests for example?

For comparison, I am currently halfway through DS3 (just completed Irithyll city) and I do not like how the NPC quests are handled. I am very thorough in my blind exploration and I find that many triggers/developments are not hinted anywhere. Also, quests break suddenly making me feel like I made a mistake, while in DS1-2 if something bad happened to an NPC it just felt like the natural development of their story even when a more desirable course of events existed.

Please try to keep the answers spoiler-free for both games and thanks for your insights!

spoilers on your first playthrough will definitely ruin your experience. so my advice, you better don't look up for any answers online, only on your first playthrough. since this game required you to finish 4 times to get all of the endings anyway.
so just play it, and then see which ending you do get first.

NPC quests are generally fewer and simpler than in Dark Souls, though their rewards are lesser as well. I would also say it is much harder to break their quests, the main exception being a couple NPCs whose fate you can decide one way or another, naturally locking out the other decision.
They’re all pretty straightforward in Sekiro especially compared to Dark Souls 1 and 3.
