Yes that too. It just feel cheap and tedious. I guess this is why I stopped playing at this point. It sucks that this game doesn't have coop like Dark Souls because whenever I got to a part that was too much I would just bring someone in to help me get past it.
and you know what, by fighting him at no upgrades+ no prosthetic+no kuro's charm challenge, i did literally broke my L1 button because of the spam, but at least i'm a bit relieve there are only 2 enemies like that in the game. perhaps i'm just gonna use my M&K with the next red-eyed ashina elite guy right after divine dragon fight. omg, i really wanna just skip that guy.
once you see him doing a step forward dash or a flash flick at his sword
(both are good indicator but i find his forward step dash are better indicator)
there that's when you double hit block button
keep doing this and you'll eventually fill his posture bar before doing it
he's cheap admittedly but once you got his timing down he's pretty easy
or just watch this guy destroy him for 5 times in a row

WTH I beat him in like 30 seconds with this method. Everywhere else they said beat this guy by dodging and striking. Why on earth would they tell us to go that way?
But also, this just makes this fight even more lame to me. Nailing deflects seems to me a lot of luck in this game.
i don't know where you read from that said dodging and striking is from
but majority boss/enemy of this game can be beat with just deflect and counter and attack
that's why we have a mixed reviews of some people like the combat of this game and who doesn't (but i do the combat that focus on deflection and counter attack is pretty fun to me)
(with only few exceptional boss)
this game is mostly all about deflection and counter attack
this game ain't dark souls
treat this game like a rhythm game (nailing down deflect timing like a tempo)
Yea I am seeing that now even more so on this boss. Genichiro Ashina. I am getting absolutely rocked. I don't even know how I got this far in this game. I guess I was in a "rhythm" because it never really felt that hard. I guess I may have to start over or something. Or just give up. I tried playing the tutorials over again but trainer goes so slowly its not really that accurate as to how fast these guys can be.
Genichiro is pretty simple once you got his pattern and timing down he's pretty easy
(with exception of his long combo slash known as spiral cloud passage are a very hard to "perfectly" deflect all of them)
just keep hitting him until he deflect you he always counter back with a slash (which you should do the same hit)
if he's jump up to shoot the arrow just deflect them all and dodge the last one
if you really struggle with any bosses i really recommend you watch the guide
especially this guy : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5HGkjrnIn4
since he's doing no damage run with charmless modifier and try to follow the rhythm.
(charmless modifier unlocks after you complete the game once the enemy will have around 30% more damage and posture and you take chip damage when blocking only way you won't take damage is to deflect which required precise timing)
You have to double deflect his attack just a few times to get his posture bar completely full. Here's a video with an example.

edit: If you have done some practice against this attack, you can use the skill learned here against sword saint isshin just as effective. so it's not a bad idea practicing this on this fella.
