Mini bosses that require items to beat are cancer.
I know the Headless have special rewards, but having to use a finite limited item with a mediocre drop rate every time you want to attempt to fight one is absolute ass.

I know you can buy more way later in the game, but it's still stupid.

You can stealth farm the confetti from samurais in Ashina castle, the drops are pretty consistent. All in all the headless aren't that bad and the rewards include infinite use sugar items, Shichimen warriors can perish in flames though.

Not to mention they are optional.

As noted, they're totally optional, so I waited until the very end of my first NG cycle and then rounded them all up. By then I had an abundance of pacifying agents and divine confetti.

Around the time you can buy them is around the time I would recommend you should fight them though. None of them block your way to anything, and their reward isn't essential, or even all that good.
Also worth noting, you don't strictly *have to* use confetti. I certainly wouldn't want to fight them without it, but it isn't required.

By that time there's really no point in fighting them, though.

They still drop useful stuff, the headless drop infinite use sugars(for all the "i don't wanna use my limited supply items" people) and the Shichimen Warriors drop the whistle upgrade, hp>emblem converter and Lazulite.

I somewhat agree with this honestly. Terror sucks and I really don't like the headless or the Shichimen warriors. I don't find them that enjoyable. The Shichimen warriors are an exercise in "run around the room to dodge stuff" followed by "use upgraded purple umbrella to block mega terror beam." It's just not fun IMO. I don't feel like my swordsmanship and skill is being tested but rather my skill at kiting and having a certain upgraded prosthetic (or even more running around without that prosthetic).

The headless are hard IMO because their movements are just so weird and erratic so it can throw you off your parry timings compared to normal enemies. The other annoyance is the slow fog sucks so much. I don't see what it adds to the fight aside from frustration. I thought I heard that you can somewhat reduce the fog effects through attacking/good parrying, etc. but I have yet to see this actually happen during my encounters with the things.

Random aside, does anyone know what the heck the headless does when it gets that grab attack on you? Honestly first time I saw it it looked like he was ripping out my spine.

Will have to agree.
As much as i praise the game at every turn - both Headles and Shichimen warriors are extremely annoying enemies all by themselves and the fact that one requires an extremely rare and expensive item to have a chance against them doesn't help either.

To be fair, this is a problem that's only present in early-to-mid game of 1st playthrough. By the late game you have enough stats to roll over them (but confettig still required) and in consecutive playthroughs you will have quiet a supply of required items.
But still... Not a fan of backtracking an enemy that wasn't meant to be beaten when you first stumble upon him 25% of the game ago.

From a youtube comment:
"It pulls out the Shirikodama, a mythical ball said to contain the soul, which is located inside the anus. And then it shoves it up his"

I wonder how many people don’t realize you can use the anti air death blow to kill the shichimen warrior in two hits. He’s almost painfully easy once you do this.

To be fair, one gotta find and purchase it first. I completely missed the NPC that sells it on my 1st playthrough and it was pretty expensive too.

And then, the Shichimen gotta do the jump and from my experience he often does it when at low health / posture already. Then again, maybe i'm just unlucky.

Shichimen jumps often in first phase. In the second phase he does this much less often and the jump itself is not long. But I still think this is done intentionally to beat Shichimen and Headless (exept undewater) after getting Phoenix's Lilac Umbrella.

Yeah that's why they're optional
