1. You want a shifted monster which can be found in the wild? Just farm that (a loop of 4 encounters) till you get what you want, then hatch that.
2. For things "more rare" (especially your starter), use a shift stone.
Do this? You won't really feel starved for shift stones. Other than that, renewable sources exist indeed:

Also great guide on this subject
Re: the topic, I've read the guides and based on that, for example, I set up a loop in the Blue Caves. I felt like I was being clever because I mapped out a 4-fight loop to try to get a light Frosty and a dark Fungi on alternating fights. I guess I'm just frustrated because this game has been so good at moving quickly, making me feel like I was constantly progressing SOMEHOW and rarely needed to stop and grind, but suddenly I'm doing these repetitive loops that aren't accomplishing anything so long as the dice don't fall in my favor.
But maybe I just needed to vent. :)
Also, yeah, Conan is super active both here and on the community discord. The devs in general communicate with the community a lot. As a result, the disposition between the players and Moi Rai is super positive. Moi Rai is awesome, and the community on the discord is great. People are super helpful on there. You should consider joining if you haven't.
I look up on the wiki and see if there are any 3 packs of whatever I want and head there. Defeat pack, ring bell, repeat until desired egg drops.
However if the Player wants to continue farming for more Champion Egg Drops to form more teams then the need to farm Shift Stones becomes a necessity long past the adventure's supply.
At the end-game when all the single-time locations are exhausted. The quickest way I've been able to farm for Shift (or any variant) Stones without Rng being a factor is by the Infinity Arena's reward currency for it's vendor as the others here have mentioned.
If the Infinity Arena method is desired then it's very important to defeat all the adventure's Champion Monsters including the two in Forgotten World to unlock the final Keeper Rank that also makes Shift Stones available to farm at the arena.
It also helps to have a strong team that can Tank strikes then stack Damage to get farther in the arena to earn more currency to spend on arena Shift Stones.
