Yes, the monsters stay the same level. But it it's important to remind you, that evolved monsters have diferent skills from the pre-evolution. You can evolve your Vaero and see if the Silvaero skill tree is good for you, if not, you can close the game with alt+f4 (without saving) and keep your Vaero.
So it totally depends on your need. You can just raise them both. They can be useful in different teams.
I use dark shifted Vaero sometimes. It is a great physical damage dealer.
To clarify, Vaero / Silvaero are more “support / buffer / combo generator” as opposed to a “damage-dealer”. They work great while supporting a heavy damage monster (Catzerker / Blade Widow / etc) but are not the main damage-dealer themselves.
I did not mean that they are the best damage dealers though. I do believe with sidekick buff a dark shifted Vaero can be a decent "main" damage dealer as well. If they are only used as “support / buffer / combo generator”, the design of their dark shift would be kinda pointless. I guess that is not what the developer want them to be.
I get whatcha mean then. While I personally don't see them as the best choice for a main "Carry / DPS-er", the point or function behind their dark shift is to increase their "secondary-damage-dealing" aspects. Essentially, they can spend round 1 (or even 2 also) buffing, then switch to combo generating attacks. [Critical Apex] is around to help increase its damage while doing combo generating, so your "number 2 and number 3" monsters do more damage, like having a "primary damage dealer and my combo-mon also does a decent amount".
So, light shift is buff-oriented and dark shift is for increasing their damage while they build combo.
