Monster Sanctuary
How is execution calculated?
So, I did about 25 attempts on Raduga now and I'm always getting 3 or 4 stars, with the best scoring around 9,6k, I think. It's always the Execution part that is dragging the score down and I can't seem to figure out how to get it higher. I obviously attack it with whatever it is currently weak against with my last monster but somehow it's always not enough. I need either 5.33 or 5 rounds if lucky to kill it. How can I get execution higher? Thanks.

See my guide for details on how scoring is done:

Specifically, on the Execution section:

For Execution, Does multiple things: first, it grants points for the first two acting Monsters based on their combo counter - so for every hit / heal / Buff that your first two Monsters land, your "Execution" rating goes higher. Secondly, "Execution" rewards the last acting Monster based on how much damage it deals relative to the enemies' health. Lastly, "Execution" grants additional points whenever any of your Monsters exploit an enemy's weakness.

capped at 4500

Though, to make sure you're getting the best you can, you healthiness score is also at 100%? Thank you for you reply!

I had a couple of tries where my healthiness was even at 100% and I sill couldn't score above 10k because of the execution.

Based on the execution description I at least have a hunch of what may be dragging it down in my case. My monster that is responsible for fire damage, its strongest spell is only a 1 hit, so every time Raduga is not weak to fire, I'm forced to use the spell second which doesn't contribute to the combo counter all too much. In my opinion it's a slight flaw in the system that doesn't weigh the monsters' potential (eg. their available skills) vs. what the player does and instead flatly requres you to prefer increasing the combo counter over using higher damage skills.

This essentially means that monsters with 1-2 hit spells have way less utility than monsters with spells that have more hits as the latter can be used to push the combo counter or attack last, while the former can't get any value if not used last.

But I get the gist of how the calculation works now, so I'll try focusing on pushing the combo counter with the first two monsters.

Thanks for the help

Mhm, it's not a "flaw" per se as it's just set up differently. You are correct: using 1 or 2 hit moves do NOT make good combo-builders. Not every skill is meant to be good in every role. Depending on how the numbers work out, sometimes using a move which the enemy is resistant to, as long as it builds up a LOT more combo for your heavy hitter, can be worth it. So yes, 1-2 hit attacks have less utility by design, they're made to be the punctuation at the end of a round, not used in the middle of it.

You don't need execution to be at 100% to go above 10k, you can as well try to spend less turns and get more combat duration rating for example

Attacks which have less hit count usually deal more damage overall, so they are ideal to finish the turn!

Ah! Guess, I falsely assumed the calculation might think the player is an idiot if he uses spells that an enemy is resistant to on purpose and punish him by lowering the score, so this was something I haven't tried out yet. So that's good to know, thanks!

Ah, so they already do? Then nevermind - it looks like the lack of those skills' utility is already balanced against by higher damage!

Great game, by the way, I hope Team 17 treats you guys fairly! Always good to see fellow lovers of turn-based combat games. Especially liked the detailed descriptions of the monsters - must have been a lot of work. Keep it up and best wishes!
After 4 more attempts I was finally able to beat it. I was about to upload the videos of failed attempts which is why I happened to record the last two attempts. Surprisingly, it was ultimately not the execution that tipped the scales (both attempts were at around 80%) but the fact that I got lucky on a crit with a fireball in a crucial moment due to which the last attempt took me 4.33 turns instead of 5.33. Everything else was basically the same. I had also leveled the Nautilid (obv. not the source of the fireball) from 30 to 31 before the last attempt but that only lowered the scoring for difficulty.

Here are the screenshots of the final scoring:

Succeeded: https://image.prntscr.com/image/BPfMQ-PbQzuQLLuSFKUBUQ.png

Edit: The interesting thing about the comparison is that everything besides the Combat Duration is scored worse on the successful attempt.
