Monsters Evolve?
Title. I just got to the stronghold and there's a monster that looks almost exactly like the green guy from the blue caves, i even killed 3 of them and got an egg but when i hatched it, i got the monster from blue cave. So thats why i'm asking, do they evolve?

To answer your question, only the eggs of the basic form of a monster can drop. That means that, using your post as an example, Grummy willl drop Grummy eggs, and G'Rulu will drop Grummy eggs as well. You can evolve monsters at the Tree of Evolution in the Ancient Woods area. Remember that it's merely a choice, and not always "evolved is better than not-evolved".

If you want some of the low-down on the philosophy of evolution in this game, to quote myself:

What about evolution? Monster Sanctuary doesn’t follow the general Pokemon / Digimon formula of “form 1 – 2 – 3”; instead, most monsters don’t have evolutions. The exception is that a few monsters have “evolutions” which you can trigger through special means to change their form. This doesn’t mean that the other form is “100% better”, it’s just different. Example, you can change a fiery caterpillar into a fiery moth. Their movesets are “similar”, but the caterpillar being more defensive / team oriented, while the moth is more offensive-oriented.

The big alternative to evolution: Light / Dark shifting. Later in the game you will gain access to light / dark shifted monsters. The difference is that this is the same monster as its base form in terms of talent trees, however, it gains additional stats. The general idea is that Light Shifted will “tend” toward more defensive / team-oriented stats and powers, while Dark Shifted will “tend” toward more offensive / individual stats and powers. Alongside the base stat increase, your monster will gain a cool passive power. Sometimes these can be more simple in nature (like plus percentage of certain stats), other times these will include cool powers (like extra equipment slots, gain shields based on damage the monster inflicts, etc). This mechanic really adds to the fun of “how do I build my monster?”

Let me know if you have further questions.

Do you have any intentions to further incentivize using unshifted monsters over shifted? The gray pearl is nice and adds some great stats when not shifting, but it's hard to pass up on the added ability that comes from light/dark shifting. Maybe have a monster with a unique aura that benefits only unshifted monsters or something?

I'm also a huge fan of the Vaero monster (it's so cute!) but find it a little....weak? I know every monster is supposed to be viable in Monster Sanctuary, but I can't help but feel it kind of sucks a little after about midpoint of the early access. What's the strategy you're supposed to use it for? Support instead of offense? Statistically it comes off like a weaker Nightwing.

As shifting is a major point (mechanically and story-wise) nothing other than Grey Pearl is planned on that front.

Vaero is far from weak. Instead, it is a popular support / secondary attacker. If you’re comparing it to Nightwing, a DPS monster, you’re kinda looking at it in the wrong light. Vaero’s job is to:

1. Buff team up.

2. Do decent damage and combo generation after that.

It is very effective as its role, a good monster in the #2 slot of your team, and will help any given DPS monster be the best it can be ^_^
