https://monster-sanctuary.fandom.com/wiki/Tengu#Stat%20Boost%20Passive
Tengu has FOUR [Mana Overloads] and one [Mana Stability] and a [Mana Focus] node. Because of this, 100% depending on your gear (and food), you can stack mana and get good stats. Adding on a +12% increase from [Eternal Heart] helps a bit, alongside the plus 2 magic it gets from light shift. Furthermore, the health increase is "nice" to help with survivability, as well as extra mana --> converts to extra defense from [Mana Stability].
Basically, people have generally favored Light Tengu, but it really 100% depends on how you build it, and whether you want to focus on damage or maybe some extra survivability.
Light is more durable because 12% more health is substantial, and 12% more mana when he's converting 15% of that mana into defense is also helpful.
Dark does more damage because while 12% mana will get him a hefty amount of magic from his 4 mana overloads (which will also feed into his hybrid mastery), Tengu already gets a very substantial amount of atk/mag even without eternal heart, so the total contribution to his damage from it is less than the separate 15% boost from dark instinct.
