This game is the best example of wasted potential I can think of in a videogame. 9 months ago this game got to +100k players. All the professional PUBG players were playing it, everyone was exited about the classes, and the forge and the ability systems. It was new, it was different, it was really a great battle royale experience. If Hi-Rez had went down that same road that got so many people into playing their game, we could have been watching at the next Fortnite.

But Hi Rez never understood this. Instead, they seem to have thought that the game was not Fortnite-like enough so they started making one shi-tty patch after another, all aimed at turning the game into a Fortnite clone instead of expanding in what made it unique. Just for giving an example, in one occasion, they decided to lower the TTK (time to kill) to a ridiculous amount and when people complained about it, the official answer was "it's still higher than Fortnite's". Like they explicitly admited they were basing their decisions on Fortnite. Like, yeah, let's just completely disregard the fact that Fortnite has deployable cover, greater distances and that it is a completely different game, shall we? They made stuff like that on the dozens. They literally make every single change in the opposite direction of what they should have done (which was EXPANDING on the class, ability, item and forge systems). Today, there are no classes, no gear (armor), no new abilities and the ability slots were even reduced from 3 to 2.

I honestly don't understand the reasoning behind all of these changes. It really seems the kind of things someone would do to deliverately ruin the game. Seriously, who in the world thought that was going to be a good idea?? Anyway, the player count today is about 1500 players on the daily peak, so finding a match takes forever, specially if you don't play in the NA server.

Hi Rez utterly and completely destroyed what was once a great game and for me, this is the last nail in the coffin for Hi Rez, I know I will never commit to a Hi Rez game ever again, they are definitely not a trustworthy company.

Its so nice shooting at someone and they cant build the f*cking eiffel tower to protect themself.

What's different here than with the others? I'll list what I've experienced so far:

1. You get to pick a class like Warrior, Engineer, Assassin, Mage, Hunter. That's right. You don't pick a hero from the main game. Here, you instead have a regular class with nothing but a knife to start off and find your gear and skills during your survival on the island.

2. No parachutes. You dive toward the ground and slam down into the ground! This leads to number 3.

3. No fall damage. Want to hop around and jump off heights that would injure / kill you in the other two BR games and not take damage? Here you go.

4. Gear is only equppable if it fits your class. Are you a warrior? Well, you can't pick up that Assassin skill or gear on the ground. Sucks, right? Well, let's move on to #5.

5. Anything you have no desire to pick up you can turn into Shards. What are those for?

6. Shards are used to craft potions, legendary armor and class-specific weapon at a forge.

7. Forge. These have icons on the map (Tab key) to mark their locations. Hold E at one of these forges to see if you can craft your class's legendary gear. Armor and Weapon take 1
minute to craft, while health / armor potions take 30 seconds.

8. When you die, you don't really die the first time. You will turn into a cute chicken with a surrender flag trying to run away and hide. You will have a respawn timer count down from 30 seconds, and if you can survive for that long you will get another chance to finish the round with a small percentage of health. Your teammates won't have to revive you, but can now defend you and keep being on the move.

9. Press Z for a mount. Great for getting to the circle if far out.

I'm sure I have missed a few details, but just remember it is in Early Access. Stats aren't being tracked, there's nothing in the store or armory for customization yet. It's pretty basic gameplay, but Hi-Rez has some really fun ideas compared to the other big games and that is why I think they can contend with the competition. It all depends on how they structure that item shop and how they will reward you for participating.

Hope this will help you decide on downloading it at least and playing a few matches.

Hi-Rez had a deep hole (or grave) to pull Realm Royale out of, and for two whole years they didn't update or touch this game. That being said, prior to this abandonment, Hi-Rez was successful in getting their game back to a place that is fun and entertaining. After a two year hiatus, Hi-Rez has been teasing and testing the official 1.0 release called [i}Realm Royale: Reforged[/i]. I have been fortunate enough to play the PTS and the new update feels like an amazing blend of what made vanilla [i}Realm Royale[/i] so good, while maintaining the positively received updates along the way. The game isn't perfect, and it might not be the most competitive Battle Royale game, but it is by far the most fun. So jump in and cluck some people up!


This has to be the saddest I have ever been writing a review, because I truly enjoyed this game (emphasis on the past tense).

Realm Royale took the battle royale formula of limit combat, loot, and survive; and flipped it on its head. Through the chicken trophy and forge mechanics, Realm Royale encouraged playing aggressively in order to obtain and craft the best possible weapons, armor, and abilities. The different classes allowed the player to switch up his or her play style from game to game to keep each match from feeling stale. The TTK (time to kill) was in a great place and only required a few class and weapon tweaks to make the game feel even better. Sadly, this is where the praise for the game stops, and the self-destructive pattern of the developers begin.

Prior to this week’s patch, the vast majority of the community would agree that as far as classes go, Assassin and Engineer were a little strong; and for weapon balance, the Slug Rifle and the Burst Rifle needed some changes...and that is pretty much it. Instead, Heroic Leap Games decided to: alter headshot damage multiplier, change starting armor value, change the weapon damage difference between common/rare/epic/legendary variations of weapons, remove chicken trophies from the game (required to forge legendary and class weapons), remove the shard (currency) bonus for getting kills, add legendary weapons/armor/abilities to chests found throughout the game (previously only obtainable via the forge), increased the chicken speed (downed state) by 45% making it 35% faster than a running player, decreased the player re-spawn time from 30 seconds to only 20 seconds, and more.

Not all of these changes are bad, but changing so much makes it almost impossible to determine what few things were “out of balance”. Even worse, why change the core gameplay mechanics: chicken trophies and forging legendary gear. My only thought is to cater toward a more casual loot and camp playstyle like every other battle royale game on the market. Realm Royale players enjoyed the gameplay loop of finding and killing players, collecting shards, and forging the best possible gear; not relying on RNG from opening chests and completely eliminating any and all benefits of getting involved in engagements. But by far the worst part of this patch is that they already tried removing the chicken trophies and having legendaries drop from chests, and the community was in such an outrage that they quickly reverted the change after just one weekend. Heroic Leap Games were given a pass for these changes under the logic, “trying different things is what Alphas are for”. Prior to the release of the current patch from the PTS to the live server, they encouraged feedback on the official steam forum, where they were bombarded by fans begging not to remove chicken trophies or add legendary items to chests. On stream, a dev then announced that they would delay the patch as they have, “heard your feedback and are making adjustments”, but then proceeded to release the patch as is. It is very evident with each and every patch that Heroic Leap Games has no idea what makes Realm Royale fun and unique, and this will only lead to more and more patches that strip away the game’s identity down to a generic camp and loot battle royale game.


It saddens me to say that in its current state, I simply cannot recommend Realm Royale.

there's no building

I played this game every day all summer long from a week after its release date til about mid September. It used to be so much fun, a breath of fresh air from Fortnite and PUBG. But, as time went on, the devs decided to release patch after patch of terrible updates that were slowly killing the game. It was right around when the first Battle Pass was released that the game took a huge turn for the worse, getting rid of chicken trophies needed to craft class weapons killed it for a lot of people. After 94% of the playerbase left I stuck around for another month because I really wanted the game to succeed because I loved it. I heard the same complaints from the community time and time again, I played everyday and I knew what others were feeling as well. But the devs kept on releasing more terrible patches and it made me ask the question as to whether or not they even play this game, or listen to the community for that matter. The devs didn't care and did what they wanted to do anyway, and they destroyed their own game, they were too busy trying to 'develop' their game because they are so 'creative' without listening to those of us who actually PLAYED the game. This game will be dead by the end of the year, I'm sorry to all the new players hoping this game gets its playerbase back, THAT is never going to happen...the players who left will never be back, including me.

After quite a few games I can saftely say this is a fun game.

I am a fan of both Paladins and Fortnite and when I originally saw this, I assumed it would be a rip from Fortnite or PUBG with little difference. I was very wrong. This game may be inspired by Fortnite and PUBG, however, much like how the main game this game is based on, it has enough differences to feel like a new game. The differences are as following (yes some are minor):
-When starting a match, you get to choose from 5 classes and each one has different abilities.
-Classes have certain abilities that are either the default one that you start with or up to two that you can find in chests in the world (there are more than that for each class so you can customize the abilities).
-When dropping you just slam into the ground and no gliders.
-Weapons are based on Paladins
-You can only hold up to two weapons at one time
-No duplicate weapons (looking at you double pump shotguns in fortnite)
-THE DEFAULT MELEE IS ACTUALLY USEFUL TO ATTACK PEOPLE WITH
-Some weapons are locked to certain classes so you can more easily tell what you're gonna fight when you see someone.
-Armor is obtained by equiping armor pieces that you find rather than consumable items.
-Armor and health can be restored in a more easy to understand fasion.
-All items are found in chests not just randomly around.
-Items you don't want or can't use can be smelted down for a currency
-You can use currency to craft Potions or one of three legendary items (weapon/armor/ability)
-You can use a mount at anytime to traverse the land much more quickly.
-Combat feels like a team based shooter rather than a normal shooter game.
-When you get knocked out, you will be revived automatically after 30 seconds if the enemy doesn't shoot your chicken. It can become a cat and mouse game giving you another shot.

This isn't to say this is a perfect game. There are many bugs as of the writing of this review. Sometimes switching weapons only results in you t-posing and not switching the weapon. Graphical errors exist. Lag can cause shots to not work at all. Solo que does not exist yet. And you can sometimes see through walls if you angle the camera just right.

Other than that, as a free game, it will certainly give you some fun times. Don't writing this off as a clone, this is another good game is a fun gameplay genre! I love it.

It's a really nice game if you like hitboxes the size of a boeing 747.

I have put in over 1000 hours on this game and love this game to death. The core gameplay is amazing. The concept of abilities and classes is amazing. The ability to forge weapons, abilities, runes, health, armor, and upgrades truly takes away the headache of terrible RNG that many other BR's have.

With that being said here's the problem with the game right now.
1.) In a competitive standpoint there are very broken things such as Axe Warrior builds and Mage Stone Staff/ Ice Staff builds. The balancing just isn't there right now.
2.) The community is getting no support from Hi-Rez and as far as we know there is nobody dedicated to the game developer wise
3.) Due to the lack or non-existent developers we see horrible server maintaining. For example you will get terrible stutters and lag early game until the lobby dwindles down to about 20 REAL players. The servers have completely pooped the bed twice in the last two months where the "fix" was simply turning off the servers and turning them back on which did nothing whatsoever.
4.) There is currently no content as far as Battle Passes in the works from what we know.
5.) There are still day 1 bugs that we still see today such as T Posing but the list goes on and on.
6.) Public matches have bots due to the lack of players which is due to the lack of care that has been shown to this game for the last 6 months.

I have hope that they take this game back over and polish it up, make it playable, and bring a huge player base back but that is far from realistic at this point in time.

this game was pure gold

I was so hyped and addicted.

and out of nowhere, devs decided it would be a good idea to remove the class weapons from the forge, and put them in the chests on the map.

the game died instantly.

they tried to fix and recover the players, but they failed.

and since then, the updates are getting worse and worse.

I just do not understand why these guys
refused to return to the version that had worked.
