Black menu screen

I didn't see anyone else mentioning this problem so here goes: The opening cinematic plays without any issue, then the cursor changes, the menu music starts playing, but all I have is a black screen without functionality. My system meets or exceeds the recommended requirements so what's happening? I have both an integrated graphics card and a dedicated one, but even forcing the dedicated card makes no difference.

Thank you for the quick response. I have checked and updated Windows and my graphics drivers and game mode is already turned on. As far as settings within the game are concerned I cannot access them due to the problem.

I am running an Acer Aspire VX15 Gaming Laptop with Windows 10 Home, 64bit, version 1909
Intel(R) Core (TM) i5 7300HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50GHz
8GB RAM
Display is Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 with 1920x1080 native resolution 60Hz
Dedicated graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Driver version: 441.20
Total available graphics memory: 8126MB
Dedicated video memory: 4096MB GDDR5
Running Direct X 12

I had this same problem. I did a similar post but I found the solution right after doing it. Here you have the video I followed for fixing it. It happened that the drivers were not actually up to date no matter what the windows auto-updater tells u. xD

(Apparently these DCH drivers are mandatory for running the game properly. Good luck and I hope it works for you)


EDIT: I just realized your laptop model is the same as mine (VX15 too), just some different specs. So yea I think it's basically some Acer problem with drivers update. xD

Have been through the steps in the video and it has fixed the problem for me as well. I was also having a similar but not quite the same problem with Age of Empires DE which I did not have initially and that problem is also resolved. So now both AOE DEs are working the way they should.
Thank you for your help Sou94, and I recommend going through the steps in the video Dr Manhattan. 2 out of 2 successes so far.

I had a similar Problem. Recently i activated AMD Freesync on my PC and after i started AoE2 DE i got a blackscreen (with sound still playing). Window mode seemed to work but neither fullscreen or "full desktop" modus worked.

After deactivating AMD Freesync in my Radeon Controll Center the game seems to work properly again...

It was a driver issue, with the onboard graphic card, it required a update, even though it did not show that, then it worked.

Blackscreen when opening

Today I bought AOE2 DE....
When I open the game I have blackscreen and music playing.

Gaming Laptop Acer Aspire VX15
Acer Aspire VX 15 VX5-591G-77V6 Gaming Intel Core i7-7700HQ 8GB 1000GB HDD
GeForce GTX 1050 Full-HD IPS Win10
Windows 10, every driver is up to date

any Ideas?

Black screen

Can't find a thread on this one so here it goes:

My game randomly goes black. Really annoying especially during rank ...
I see my mouse which can still change icon when using hotkeys and stuff, I can click, jump to buildings and make units, but I don²t see anything.

Is there a fix for this issue?
