Laggy UI and slow game on newer proton version on one machine
Hi,

I have a rather strange issue with AoE2:DE on one of my Linux machines, while it's working fine on the other one.

Both machines run ArchLinux, same kernel and both use "vulkan-radeon" and "xf86-video-amdgpu" with the latest versions. Both run steam with the same settings, 4k, the enhanced graphics (tried without as well). The funny thing is, the machine without issues is the laptop with the builtin AMD GPU while the one with issues is the one with the AMD 7900 XT GPU. But other games work fine.

And even on that machine Proton 5.13-6 works fine, the benchmark shows a score of around 1290 but once I switch to newer Proton version (I tried 6,7,8,9, Epxerimemtal and GE) the UI is extremely laggy and the benchmark stops with a score below 10. So something changed on the newer Proton versions that only seems to trigger the bug on the freshly installed new box with the bigger 7900 XT.

I also tried the SKIPINTRO addition but no change. Vsync enabled/disabled had no impact and disabling the Enhanced Graphic set didn't help neither. I also tried disabling the multimonitor setup on the 7900 XT.

I'm running out of ideas, cause both machines run effectively the same OS. The CLI ouput is also the same when running steam launched by a terminal.

Did anyone run into the same issue and found the root cause?

Funfact, I disabled the iGPU via the BIOS and the problem disappeared

I had the same issue. Age of Emperies 2 HD tried to run the onboard graphic chip by default.
You can work-around by adding the launch option

DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="name of your gpu" %command% SKIPINTRO

You can find you GPU Name by vulkantools. Enter into the terminal each line:
sudo apt-file update
sudo apt-get install vulkan-tools
vulkaninfo | less
\deviceNAME
(there you have your gpu Name)
