Game crashes each time I use Advanced Genie Editor.
The game will only work as installed via steam. There was an update (which I'd like to prevent BTW) back in late summer/early autumn (northern hemisphere) that crashes the game at the main menu whenever I make only one change using Genie. I've been using Genie for years to make relatively minor changes to the game. But now I haven't been able to play since August of 23. Just now, I downloaded the entire game and reinstalled and it still won't work. I have no other mods installed.

make a local mod with proper directory set up and your own data file in it, use genie to edit that data file instead of the main one from the game

Thank you for that response. Can you clarify that a little? I should make a separate directory and copy the data file over and mod that? How do I link it to the game?

under C:\Users\Yourusername\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\BunchofNumbers\mods\local
Make a new folder "My Mod" then copy resources folder into that folder.

Thank you again. I did as you suggested and I can see my mod in the game list, but it's not incorporating it. I went into game setting and then mods and clicked "import local mods" but when I play, it's not incorporating the changes.

Any other suggestions?

Data mods do not get "enabled" like regular mods. You have to select them through the "Data Mod" drop-downs before going into gameplay. There's one of each available in: Create/Load Scenario, Create Lobby, Skirmish, Campaigns screens.
