Anti-cheat in single player
I saw that if I attempt to use a trainer with AoE II DE then the game will demand to be restarted. Now, I'm happy that there are effective anti-cheat counter-measures in the game for those who want fair games in multiplayer and I would never dream to complain about that. However, I'm simply not interested in multiplayer and play exclusively in singleplayer so I must ask, why would these counter-measures be active in single-player too? I know that there are in-built cheat codes, but why wouldn't I be allowed to mess in the game as how I see fit in my single player experience like in any other single-player game? After all, the very fact that there are in-built cheat codes only shows that it's understood that cheating is a viable way of having fun in the game for some people.

Of course I do not want to compromise any multiplayer experience by asking to revert or disable such counter-measures, but simply ask to separate the single player experience from the multiplayer one. I'd imagine that this won't be change anyway, but just wished to point this out anyway. Thank you for your time.

-I am not sure what you're asking.

-Either turn on cheats for cheat codes or use infinite resources or use custom mods for what you want to do. All of that can be done in singleplayer.

-Unless you're talking about hacking? And if so, that is stictly prohibited.

I'm talking about a "trainer" for cheating in single player. Not sure what counts as hacking, but as I said I do not wish to compromise the multiplayer experience. But I guess there could not be exceptions for single player in order to not compromise multiplayer too.

OP is right what the hell does the devs have against having fun in single player?
I prefer using a trainer instead of using cheat codes or mods in DE because of the stupid annoying "ACHIEVEMENTS ARE OFF YOU DIRTY,DIRTY CHEATER!!!!!!!"messege that appears after EVERY SINGLE GAME and the constant updates that break all data mods every other week
But if i do use a trainer the game kicks me out after a couple rounds maximum
Why can't they just enable anti cheats AFTER the player entered multiplayer lobby instead or running with the game core???
It's SO infuriating what are they doing to the game because Elitism sells

A trainer refers to an external program/app that alters the state of the game. Think of the popular trainers released by Mr. AntiFun for example.

I do not have AoE installed anymore to try it, but I vaguely recall reading that a workaround to disable the anticheat in single-player was renaming the game folder "battleserver" to something else (like "battleserver backup"), but I do not know if that is still a valid solution. Of course, you would need to revert the change for online matches and, as I stated in the opening post, I was neither asking nor encouraging cheating in multiplayer. This discussion was exclusively about single-player offline gaming.

I also recall having used Cheat Engine, so maybe Cheat Engine tables would work instead of other trainers.

Yeah, If you attach any process to the game, it will detect it and force you to restart the game.

Edit: I mean, I do agree with it being there but, for single player? No... Although, I think it's more targeted at trying to determine the source code and whatnot. (Which could be bad... Personally, eh... I dunno. I personally, would not care but, we are talking about Microsoft here... So... I don't think that will happen.)

Edit: But yes, Anti Cheat/Required Internet Connection (The aspects of) is Single Player games is one of those things that I do agree that needs to die. Let the Gamers have their fun and screw around. XD

My guess is they introduced it to single player to prevent people from geting achievements the easy way (like making player's units unkillable or instant recruiting, which would really help in certain scenarios btw). Interestingly, it doesn't kick you out if you use WeMod but any other trainer gets the boot.
