Age of Empires 2 does not work for me at all

This is something that has been severely annoying me for the past 5 days.

1) I suddenly could not get into the game anymore and got the notification about a (schrijffout). I noticed that the exe file suddenly was missing and it was located in the map (downloading).

2) I eventually in my desperation tried to reinstall the game, but it did not fully install. Namely the files could not be placed in the map they should be without administrator rights.

3) There is still a re-occuring download that happens almost 5 or 6 times a day. Same size everytime.

(Edit to point 3) The update is just an update from steam that occurs time after time and for some reason just keeps installing. (Most likely the same update every time because the size is exactly the same)

4) I eventually managed to remove this game only by using Glare utilities. But it was uninstalled via steam already and the files where obviously not removed.
(One file refuses to be removed though. That file is named battleserver.exe)

So you can see, i am quite a bit nettled right now because this Problem has been going on for 5 days and gets worse and worse the more time is passing.

Honestly when you buy a game you expect to play it without having to do a crash course at computer science.

Thanks, i am going to look at it for a bit. And see what it does.

EDIT: It has not worked. Added steam and steam service client to exceptions in my antivirus. And to my firewall. Neither the steam update or the AoE2 installation could be finished.

Then turned off the firewall and still same problem.

Thank you for your report. Could you please share your setup info (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)? Is the game still unable to finish downloading?

If it has not finished downloading, try the following steps:

1. Fully uninstall AoE2 DE.

2. Re-install Steam.

3. Update your graphic drivers and check for pending Windows updates.

4. Attempt to re-download the game.

5. Add the whole game folder to your antivirus exception list. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE is the default
