Can't open multiplayer game

Hi, So it's pretty much that. The lobby name is red (not sure if that was always the case). I can enter a password, change some settings, but the the button to start a lobby is greyed out.

I can be invited, but the games won't load then. Apperantly I load the the game fine then ( I get a hook, all other players can see that too) But no other players do.

It has also been a pain in the ass to sync my save files (why ever I would need savefiles in the cloud for aoe2: de)

Try to verify your files in the Steam Library (Aoe, properties, local files)

If you change the name of the lobby, can you create one?

I tried that, nothing worked. Not sure if the lobby name is supposed to be deep red. But that's what it is.

I also logged out of my microsoft xbox live account (inside AoE2), logged back in.
Logged out of my Steam account, logged back in
Deleted local files that were supposed to help the cloud sync. Didn't help.
In the end the Cloud sync worked again, but I still can't open a lobby.

To this day I can't open a lobby or join a game.

Every lobby name is red? You tried more than one?

Can you try to add the whole game folder to your antivirus' exception list? C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE is the default, AoE2DE_s.exe is there

Disabling the antivirus is not enough sometimes

No, just the lobby name of the lobby I want to open. It is white first but turns red after like 0.5 seconds.

Exception did not work. Why should I disable my antivirus?

Still doesn't work btw.

The antivirus sometimes affect multiplayer issues, thats why I suggested it.

Are you in the last version of the game? 61591

hey have you participated in a PUP build that you might've forgotten to uninstall, or are using a previous version of the game by chance?

Are you able to play multiplayer on any other steam game, or does it only affect aoe2?

Thanks. It's just a bummer, because I was used to pretty much playing a match or two with my cousin daily. Now I have to open a VPN so we can play Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds instead, lol.

The entire version number of the version I use is
101.101.61591.0 8647032
So it's 61591, I guess.
It worked before, it just stopped from one day to the next.

Thanks, still. I contacted support. If I figure it out I'll post in this thread again, in case someone else has this issue.

No, it's just the regular, most up to date, public build that I'm using. No mods, nothing fancy going on.

I've had issues with my steam cloud syncing up. So I deleted local files of the steam installtion itself and for some reason that fixed it.
BUT: I can play other games in multiplayer just fine. Satisfactory, for example.

So I don't think it's a matchmaking issue. I can see other lobbies, I can update them. I can be invited, like I said. Maybe it's just Windows ... lol.
