You can't load or watch them anyway if they are from an older game version before the last update.
Try this. It involves deleting all of the information on the files in your local folder that gets synced to the steam cloud every time you launch a game. What it will do is force a message box to appear when you start a game that states that the files in your steam cloud and the files on your system conflict, and gives you the option to download your cloud files to match the ones on you computer. Or you can upload the files from your computer to your cloud. You'll want to do the latter option, and since your deleted all of the data, you are basically uploading a bunch of blank files of 0 KB to your cloud, overwriting anything that was there originally. I did this and my cloud storage went down to zero. Best of luck.
We're assuming that you have the Steam Cloud synchronization option enabled in your Steam Settings. (Because if it was off, you wouldn't be here)
1. Exit out of the game and only have Steam open.
2. Navigate to the following file path, it should look like this:
You can find your User ID by pulling up your friends list and clicking the "Add Friend" Button if you're interested
3. Once you're in the 'remote' folder you might have a bunch of saved games, or autosaves on disconnect. You can try to delete them, but Steam will just download them to your system from the cloud again. GRRRRRRRRR.
4. So here's what you do.... Open one of those AOE2MPGAME files with Notepad.
Control + A (Select All)
Backspace (Delete all the information in there)
Control + S (Save your AOE2MPGAME file with 0 KB of information in it)
5. Do this for all files in there, making them all 0 KB, then launch AoE2 DE.
The Steam Cloud will synchronize your local files to the cloud (the files you deleted all the information from).
6. Go to Main Menu > Single Player > Load Game.... Your Cloud Capacity should now be at Zero percent!

This seems fishy but it works flawlessly!
