Can't connect to online (multiplayer) services!

I have a button below the account window "connection to multiplayer services" and after pressing it, it says "can't connect to online services"! The Event won't start. I tried to logout and login to xbox account, I also verified the game files. Nothing helped.

In windows 10 settings go to "Gaming", run xbox networking, fix any bugs there and make sure your nat type is open.

For me, this bug appeared on an illegal version of windows but didn't appear on a legal one...

For my friend it was enough to import the certificates from this folder to solve the problem. Perhaps other people will need to export / import certificates from the Intermediate Certification Authorities or Third-Party Root Certification Authorities folder - it all depends on what certificate is missing and what is the Certification Path for connecting to the Online (Multiplayer) service. Note: Even if you can see the imported certificate on your computer in certmgr.msc, where is the problem, you need to import it. The certificate may be revoked / corrupted.
The time should also be set correctly. It is best to synchronize the date and time with ntp servers. In Windows 10, right click on the clock -> Set date / time -> Set time automatically.

It is also recommended to reset Internet Explorer, Edge, Chromium browser settings to default settings. Other things that may affect the Multiplayer connection problem:
Windows Firewall or other AV / firewall installed.
In Windows 10, go to Settings -> Update and security -> Windows security -> click on Firewall and network protection -> Restore default firewall settings. After this, when you will run the application that connects to the Internet (eg Steam, Age of Empires 2 de) allow the firewall to connect. If you are an advanced computer user, you do not need to restore the default firewall settings. All you need to do is add rules in the firewall that allow Steam / Age of Empires 2 DE to connect to the Internet. The same should be done with the firewall of other companies.
You should also check the settings of your network card. Go to the Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change network card settings -> right click on the adapter you are connecting to the Internet -> Properties -> click twice on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4) -> Select get IP address automatically / Select get DNS server automatically -> Click OK - if you are sure that your network gives IP addresses automatically! My friend had only a problem with the SSL certificate. I haven't seen this solution described on the internet anywhere. I've seen solutions to install the game on partition D, reinstall Steam and the game, but that didn't fix the problem. I also tried to use a VPN, but this solution also didn't work.

Man thank you very much I had PC en my house where the game was OK but have this same problem in my PC i exported the certificates one by one (about 60) from one pc to another and It fixed the problem Im so greatfull. Both pc has Win 7

Same connection problem with me. Changing the date trick made it work for 2 minutes. Then the issue came back.

After a very long time of getting errors trying to access the multiplayer component (such as "Cannot connect to Steam. Please check your internet connection."), and none of the above solutions fixing the issue for me (firewall, certs, etc), I finally stumbled across another potential cause. I had the "Network List Service" Windows service disabled (via services.msc). Once I allowed that to run, multiplayer worked again from the main menu. This service is enabled by default, so I don't expect it to be a cause for most people, but it is something else to check for anyone still having the problem.

I've been having this exact problem. I've tried most of the things suggested on here. The only thing that works is if I connect through a VPN. Then it works fine. However, as soon as I disconnect the VPN, all of a sudden I'm back to square one and unable to connect.

The problem with connecting via a VPN is the lag is worse, so ideally I would like to be able to get back to connecting over my normal internet connection.

Does anyone with more expertise than myself have any good ideas as to what may be the cause? As I'm guessing the fact it works fine with a VPN may be a clue.

I still have this problem, trying many different things including the here suggested solutions (except the certificats, since the link to the needed files isnt working anymore and I dont really know where to find the files needed)

The situation is kinda strange, since if someone invites me to a lobby, I can play online vs AI and join that lobby. But only if my friend invites me and I can accept the invitation in the game. And we can play together vs AI no problem at all.

But I just can log into the online services myself. (Multiplayer is grayed out, I seem to be offline and if I try to reconnect to the online services I recive "Cannot connect to Steam"

I can launch the game via steam, I am online in steam and i can play all other games online on steam without any problems.

I've searched and tryed many things for the past couple of days and I'm not able to find something that works and fixes this problem.

I would really like to be able to play online myself, and maybe someone out there has an idea. Thanks already

If any issues with uninstalling xbox app, use powershell (windows 10) as admin, and use next commands in console (powershell):
