AoE 2 DE + Linux?

Hey, my just bought the game - Before the game goes to fullscreen and shows the intro of the game, it disappears with out any error.

So, any one with Linux playing AoE2DE?

any solution?

I am planning to buy the game and I am on Linux too.

You need to remove the video files and some files then it will work.
and a wine dll file need to be replaced also for multiplayer.
it work very nicely on linux (i am playing on MP only) , i have the same performance than on my windows host.
To get mods working, you need to install mod on a windows setup; it will be updated through Steam cloud when you will run on linux next time.

Looking forward to running AoE DE on Fedora. Given that it's Age of Empires, I can't imagine there being too many difficulties (I got FL Studio working and installing that ended up being a pleasantly trivial process).

It did run well on Ubuntu until I updated the mesa drivers, after that it stopped working. Still trying to get it running on Steam Play. Tried options, winetriks protontricks etc, nothing seems to work.

You can also get the mods by going to logging in with your steam account on
https://www.ageofempires.com/mods

There you can choose which mods to subscribe or unsubscribe to. It will have downloaded the mods the next time you start the game.

this is a very common bug also on Windows. I consider myself not really IT illiterate and I still couldn't solve it on my Win10..
First look into why it crashes/stops. Go look at the logs in your User directory (wherever the Linux version stores this, can't help you there but it will have a timestamp for a filename).
What is the last line before "Writing out log file" ?

Lutris script is now available for AOE2DE. Now it is working with Wine Steam. Still no fix for proton though. However there is no performance drop in Wine compared to when I played it using Proton. The main thing is, it works other than the occasional freezes while in the menu, but I didn't notice any freezes during gameplay.

Can you elaborate on exactly what dlls to copy for Multiplayer to work. Or point me to an appropriate link please? I can play multiplayer it loads and after 15 secs i get "out of sync" and the game drops :(

Game crashes on launch unless the video files in _common are deleted. But runs very choppy. Doesn't launch at all if launching in offline mode. Ubuntu

If you have installed the latest version of your graphics card's driver, you may ignore this message." <-- I get this message then a black screen like it's going to start then... nothing. I am running Linux Mint 21.1 with nVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile. I really want to play this game ( I have been waiting for several years for Steam to improve... ). Any ideas?
