Here are two additional steps you can try:

1) Take a moment to verify the integrity of your game files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

2) Navigate to the game folder and try launching the game OUTSIDE of Steam. If a new error message appears, please include that text here.

Let me know if this works for you, or if you get any additional information after following these steps!

I did this and I got the following error message : SteamAPI_RestartAppIfNecessary() has been triggered. Abording startup

I also tried everything posted on your previous link.

The error I get is the following:
AoE2DE_s.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll

It sometimes crash the Steam as well... Getting more and more annoyed with this, as these freaking similar issues faced by so many people should have been fixed BEFORE publishing the game, at the beta session, right?

Restart PC after install of AOE_DE2 is ready. If needed install VCREDIST 2017 64bit.

If you don't have 64bit. :/ well. Slower game.

Thank you,

I did two things to fix the NON-restart
1. Uninstalled AOE DE again (3rd time)
2. installed VCREDIST x64 latest from MS site
3. restarted PC
4. Installed AOEDE again
Worked this time!

I hope above helps others

It is absolutely critical that you are running the proper VCRedist and Visual Studio files to run the game! Even if you downloaded them previously, install them again and then try re-launching the game:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/

You can also find the VCRedist installer in the AoE2:DE install directory.

If you have any outstanding Windows updates, make sure you've run through them and restarted your computer, as well!

@MiniWolskys & @Terran

If you could, please try installing the Media Features Pack update located here:

https://www.ageofempires.com/support/aoe2#aoede-exe-error

Let me know if that fixes your error,

Fully reinstalled the Visual C++ Redistributables, to no avail.

Does anything at all show when you run it outside of steam?

Same thing happens... Either.. the logo appears and it crashes 1 second after the cinematics screen pop up or it lets me reach the main menu and crashes when I try to start a game..
Restart your computer. This is since you have installed AOE_DE2. I needed to do that too. Crashed at every level loading screen.

I have restarted my PC twice... once after I manually installed Microsoft C++ Redistributables and once after I first realized the game keeps crashing...

have you tried running the game as administrator from the Properties of the icon?
Disable fullscreen optimizations of windows too.
Wolsif Nov 14, 2019 @ 1:07pm

I have ran it manually, by the game folder, as an administrator, right after I added the game exe to my antivirus' white list... Updating C++, graphics driver, reducing the graphics quality (when it let me reach the game menu, I dropped it to lowest & set it to the lowest resolution windowed) didn't help either...

Try your original settings, and put the particles one on Low,. 0 bloom, and other 'postprocessing'

can you please check the events log :( and see what causes the crash.
When last did you install DX On your system?
I wish we could use Vulkan to run this -even RDR2 was released with Vulkan support out the box - more stable.
