Hey,

seams to be a bit pointless to release AOE1 again... so whats the point of the dlc?

I'm interested if the AoE1 campaign is ported over. Can anyone confirm this?

AoE 1 campaigns are not ported over because they are terrible and dated. They've made 3 new campaigns for the DLC. In any case this DLC is pretty much what AoE I DE should have been ie AoE I with AoE II mechanics like formations, gates, etc. so it is very worthwhile if you are an AoE I fan imo.

Well said, that one reason is more than sufficient. Let´s get it!

So officially speaking, they are not coming over with DLC, however I've been seeing people say that the devs wanted to remake some of the original campaigns, so we might get them down the line.

The point of this DLC is an engine update. AOE1 does not play well by today's standards. Unit's path in archaic ways which were acceptable for the time of the original release, but are infuriating by modern standards. Controlling large numbers of units was a massive headache. By putting it all into AoE2, they fix a lot of the major gameplay complaints that players have had with the game.
I'd guess this DLC will sell far better than AOE1 DE has as far more people play AOE2. The majority of the work creating this DLC would likely have been creating the new environment, lets call it AOE 1.5, where all the assets they already made will function.

That's no small task but it's probably all coding: the models, textures, animations, sounds and voice acting (all the hard stuff) was already done.

NO, they will NOT be ported over, but people like to say: "they will be ported over LATER / will be modded in" aso, but this is not reality but wishfull thinking at the moment

I have pre-ordered it since it is slightly cheaper. By porting the original game, there is now the potential for more DLCs for this plus now it will be able to be modded.

I have to address this, because it's just so obviously wrong. You say it's "wishfull thinking" that we will get the campaigns as mods? What? The sheer number of people asking about the original campaigns means that there's significant interest in them. They might not ever be remade officially, we don't know, but they will definitely be remade as community mods. I say this with 100% confidence, because honestly why wouldn't people in the community try to remake them? It's just a map. It's literally just a map. That's the easiest thing to release as a mod. You can do all of it through the in game editor.

mean they stop support aoe 1 DE. it makes sense, since AOE 1 engine is old and costly to expand while you can just use AOE 2. to be honest i dont mind, AOE 1 as a game is broken(because the technology limitation of that time)
there is some guy on youtube said, Devs gonna rework the campaigns instead of just port the old one to AOE 2,so there are more than just a copy of AOE 1 in AOE 2

If people want to play those old campaigns, why do they simply not play the old version? I have the old disc, which I bought at Kmart in 1997 and it works fine. I use the unofficial patch, so the saved games do not become corrupted. I do not believe that I ever played any of the campaigns, only normal skirmish mode. The Vietnamese agree with me that the game is still good!

AoE 1 DE has terrible pathfinding and unit collision (they did this intentionally to make it like original AoE 1), zero new civs or campaigns, can't build gates or use formations. Upgrading it to the AoE 2 DE engine is a massive improvement.

Also AoE 1 DE is more-or-less a dead game now, not just because of the points above but because they made it exclusive to a terrible store that nobody uses for more than 1-year (the Microsoft Store), the AI was broken for more than 9 months after the game launched, and mod support was nonexistent.

When they are modded in (with the introduction voice-over. the map, the hints and the history, the winning and losing text voice overs and flavor-paintings...^^ ;) ), I will buy the Rise of Rome DLC.
Fair enough?
