Potential 2025 Roadmap teased on AoE official website
https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age-of-empires-ii-definitive-edition-minor-update-133431/

Link is to age of empires official website. Update is small but community note/looking ahead message hints at an upcoming roadmap and new content planned by Spring/Summer 2025.

A different team did Chronicles so maybe the main team has been working on a DLC for the base game.

Well, hearing they have plans and things coming soon is good, hopefully it's not an AoE3 situation. After that announcement not long ago while we're still getting stuff in the near future feels like will sting a little more for AoE3 fans.
Chronicles did really good, so more of it will come for sure. IMO this "saga" has a lot of potential. With this way of storytelling they can easily cover almost a millennium of history from 522 BC (date of the first Chronicles scenario) to 476 AD (date of the fall of the Western Roman Empire and conventional start of the Middle Ages).

If nothing else, any kind of announcement is a good life sign for the game. When there's no time or money for comms, its a very bad sign.

Still personallt hanging for some basic stand alone scenarios rather than the big v&v ones

Where did you hear that Chronicles did well? I'd like to know. I know it has very positive reviews, but I'm talking about actual sales

Personally I'm doubtful. It has very high production quality, so its break-even point is innately higher. It is also a single player DLC, so the majority of the multiplayer only crowd is going to skip it

I saw that and it looks interesting, I'm hoping they add more co-op content to the game.

Just my speculation, but the chronicles dlc has many more player reviews than the standard dlcs so there is at least more enthusiasm. I think the single player/custom game audience for this game may be larger the the ranked players. A vocal minority situation.

Also if there are enough chronicles civs added in the future, maybe they will make a separate ranked mode for those civs, though I wouldn't count on that.

If you check SteamDB numbers you can see that currently Chronicles has the highest position in top sellers compared to the others DLCs. Chronicles is 1124, V&V is 2729, MR is 1892 and RoR is 1819.

That said, you are right, it has very high production quality and we cannot know if Chronicles has been a success from devs' point of view. Personally I had and still have a great time with it and I hope we get some more episodes for this saga.

Production value was indeed higher than some of the others we've had in the past with the exception of RoR which was a port of AoE1 into 2. If Chronicles is the best selling or one of the best selling hopefully they'll be incentive to do more. Also those sale figures are over a shorter time period compared to the others, while bulk of sales do happen early on. No doubt when it goes on it's first sale, it will sell even more.

Hopefully we see more. Though I would like to see a more traditional expansion with new civs for multiplayer, 3 campaigns and a focus on medieval period.

I can't stress this enough.. we need MORE coop campaigns. I don't understand why they just threw out a bunch and then were like "yup, we done with this".
DO MORE, I am begging.
Yea, some people tried to recreate the main campaign ones for coop but 2nd player always broken, starting with absolut nothing. By the time they get something done, player 1 finishes the scenario lool

The only one I tried from the base game is a co-op version of vlad dracula. But yeah I've noticed the community has made many of the original campaigns from the base game and forgotten co-op.

Like most campaigns, they are either too easy or tedious with no in between.
