Stop milking and killing the game ffs...
I have been playing AoE 2 since it was released; literally. As a teenager I stood in line to buy it on the first day. I lost my copies and rebought the game multiple times. I repurchased it on Steam, bought the HD remaster, and the Definitive Edition that I was a fan of until you guys started to F* it up.

You basically have the easiest game-dev job in the world: Release a DLC that doesn't mess things up or suck and I will purchase it because this is my all-time-favourite game and I want to keep it alive. Take my $20, I don't mind. All you have to do is release a product that I have a neutral opinion on and you get my money. No other game has that status or will ever have that status to me.

Still you manage to fail and fail and fail. Over the past couple of years it really seems to me, that you have run out of any good ideas and you just need to produce a DLC for the sake of producing a DLC on a schedule. You have run out of ideas for Civs and introduce different Chinese factions now? This is not what AoE was about. You are missing the point. We don't want new mechanics, hero garbage, and in the first place we don't want to see a civilization that we loved for 25 years being removed and replaced by subfactions like the Indians e.g.

You need money for the development / service? Release a wild-life pack with super detailed varieties of animals where every deer looks slightly different, and wolf packs, and birds, and fish, and awesome animations... Release a castle pack where you can customize your castle... Release biome packs with fancy looking trees and landscapes... Man, I would purchase them without even checking what it is because I just want you to stop f*cking things up.

A strongly disappointed and disgruntled day one fan.

I spent much of 1998 and 1999 on fan forums speculating about this game. I've also been a fan since day one. I feel you. Unfortunately, people like you and me are not where the $$$ is (or the ¥¥¥).
It seems that Microsoft have made Forgotten Empires their equivalent of the LucasArts "Milking the Star Wars license until its udders turn into little black stalactites department" to quote Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw.

As a fellow 1999 player, I claim to be happy about the newest DLC.

Best DLC since the Raja's.

I'm actually surprised that people tend to genuinely be happy with the new campaigns. I was expecting they put as much effort into them as the new civs would imply.
Is it really surprising then that I want a "AoE2 Pure Edition" that completely removes the 3 Kingdoms from the game and cannibalizes their bonuses and unique techs into stuff that actually makes sense for AoE2 such as Tibetans?

Bad name for an edition, since everyone will have a different idea what "pure" is in terms of AoE2.

(Personally I'd say a "pure" edition should toss out anyone not from the OG 1999 release)
Very much agreed with the OP, apart from the point about the Indians (which yes needed what they got) and the last suggestion that basically said the last patch should have been purchasable content.

There is no reason that campaign DLCs would not offer good RoI, we need to be unshackled from the need to add civs all the time and focus on more quality single-player content, i.e. full campaigns for civs that don't yet have one.

just do not buy the DLC and write a negative review
they are not gonna stop if money and positive reviews do not drop

One of these is a lot more important than the other...
Judging by pre-orders alone along with sales from when it went live, 3K is doing well, but who knows if this nonsense is just a one-off phenomenon or if it signals the start of AoE2 Definitive Edition's fall into becoming AoE2 in name only.

Already seeing some slipshod work in the Chinese Simplified translation for some of the new units. Some of it was posted in the official AOE forums, compared to the Chinese Traditional one, it looks like either someone really incompetent or was done by google translate/AI without human verification

I would bet AI was used extensively for all this. Given the half-assed nature of the whole idea, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Currently spotted these few errors

Liao Dao

Simplied: 辽道 (Way of the Dao??) Should be 辽刀

Traditional: 遼刀

Fire Lancer

Simplied: 火枪骑兵 (Mounted Musketeer?? Hand Cannoneers are named 火枪兵!) Should be火 (Fire)长矛 (Lance) 兵

Traditional: 火長矛兵
