25 villages to go up to Feudal Age on more standard maps like Arabia would be slow.
Usually people go up with between 19-21 villagers. 19 being for fast rush with scouts before your enemy can wall of completely. 21 being a bit more economically focused.
35-40 villagers would be standard for Arabia style map for going up to Castle Age maybe more or less depends totally on enemy pressure and what you're building military wise.
A fast castle build is 25 villagers before feudal, you build maybe 3 more in feudal, then click up ASAP to castle age. This is common Arena or if you're the pocket player.
More complex.... it depends. Lol. But 35 is definitely too many for a fast castle.
1)Your civ.
2)How many boars you can get/ how good is your fishing? If your dock is contested with either allies or enemies or your 2nd dock is, then you're going to have problems.
