I really don't like the inclusion of charge attacks.
The Coustillier and Urumi Swordsman. Does anybody else feel like the idea of having things like charge attacks and stuff on units doesn't really fit AoE? The Burgundians were really weird in general as a civ by having all these wild features and I cant say I'm a fan of that direction, like the tech that turns all your villagers into militia, or the one that converts your food.
I thought they would just be the one civ with really weird gimmicks, but now they're continuing it with the Urumi Swordsman.

What do you guys think of these kind of designs? Personally I thought that the Urumi would have trample damage or something as it's trait.

Okay, you know that doesn't count.

I remember similar feelings from peeps back in the days for ranged Melee attack like mamelukes, kamyuks, gbeto and axe bois.

We need to adapt, accept and leaen new things in aoe2. Otherwise, we will just be blockers of new ideas and progress.

The game development is evolving,. With units like Ratha, they really have broken the ceiling IMO. You should see a lot of units like that in future DLCs.

Because AOE2 was the chosen one, unlike Aoe3 with its gimmicks and hence smaller fanbase.

Back to topic: the charge is an unfitting mechanic and should have remained unique to the Coustillier, just as the armour-ignoring of Leitis.

Very weird for a whip wielding infantry unit to have such bonuses anyway.

The Mamelukes of the Saracens were included in the original AOE2?

This is a good point.

I have an open mind to some of the charge attacks, etc. But I feel like the splash is quite a lot to add. And ignoring all armor as a tech? Wow.

As often as something might not appeal to me, it might appeal to another, so as long as things do not get out of hand I do not mind. I do want it to feel like AOE2 though.

Monks have the original charge attack

Just another gimmick unit ability that bloats the game. If it was to be historical you would think Poles should get a charge abilitiy for their cav not Burgundians. No one regales about the dreaded Burgundian Coustellier charge altering the course of European history.

Rebalance old civs and add a few for uncovered regions not nonsensical civ splits and ability bloats.

I accept it if it makes sense. Like a heavy cavalry unit with a lance. But a half naked dude with a small ass shield nah man. It would make sense for some aoe damage. But aoe, charge and armour ignore all in one??

NAHH

Urumi should've been a unit with relatively low damage that does trample damage when it attacks. Bad against highly armored and expensive units, but absolutely great against masses of units with low melee armor.

They could even keep the charge and have it as a stronger opening AoE attack if they wanted.

Right now, it's just infantry version of Coustilier and with the armor-ignoring tech it's just ridiculous and doesn't bear a resemblance to what the urumi is actually good for. Which is fighting against multiple, lightly-armored opponents. Not destroying knights in full plate armor like they are made of paper.

Lithuanians are actually closer to how Poles were as a faction historically. Reskin Leitis as a Winged Hussar, change the language the villagers speak and Wonder and nothing would feel out of place. Except for that orthodox church, but the current Poles have that too.
