not sure, i did the william wallace campaign
Start with the one below Hard (was it "normal"?!) and once you can out-macro it easily go against Hard.
You will properly also have more success if you play as a Civ with a straight forward game plan such as Franks (Knights), Britons or Mayans (both Archers).
People who haven't had their frist driving lesson will not have fun in Formula 1.
William Wallace campaign is like a tutorial of how to open the door of a car (and maybe put the seatbelt on).
Do what Paulo said.
Ok gotcha!
If you play more ranked games, the ranked system will have a better gauge on your skill level, and start matching you with other beginners like yourself. It takes like 10 games to get there. If you quit after 1 game, well you probably shouldn't be multiplayer games anyway. No one likes quitters.
All ranked games are recorded by default. If you get wrecked by someone you can load the recorded game and watch from their perspective and see how they beat you. It's kind of like a Call of Duty Kill Cam.
Just keep in mind, everyone starts out where you are. They join a multiplayer game, assuming they're going to kick ass only to find out you got your own handed to you. Yea it sucks to learn the hard way to have your enemy defeat you so overwhelmingly and in such a way that you begin to question whether you ever knew how to play the game in the first place. You'll get over it, you just need to get a handle on your ego, and learn to be ok with losing.
It sounds like Empire Wars. Did the game start in Feudal Age? If so, the 8 minute Castle sounds normal for that mode.
Edit: Yep, it was Empire Wars indeed - that mode can be intimidating for new players as it puts its focus on the mid game. (Source - your aoe2.net profile: https://aoe2.net/#aoe2de-matches-76561198009260426 )
As the others pointed out - try the Art of War missions (especially Early Economy, Booming and maybe Land Battle) to get the basics :) And be sure to queue up for Random Map as that's the most played mode.
No no i am not exaggerating, he was in castle age in 8 minutes, another 2 minutes and there was a castle outside of my base, then trebuchets (or battering rams?) and infantry in my town. I can send the replay if you want - it was insane. I thought there was more time to actually build up. And no ego here, just didn't know that's kinda how ranked games go where it's like bumrushing the enemies base. Here's the game https://aoe2.net/#aoe2de-matches-76561198009260426 )
Yeah it did start in Feudal! And that's cool that you can pull up the tracker, I will try out the art of war missions. And great to know about random map
You can improve watching games from pro-players or casters: T90, TheViper, Hera, Liereey...
Some maps make this easier than others. Maps like Oasis, Michi, Amazon Tunnel, Arena and Black forest are map layouts that allow for more time to build up. More open maps like Arabia or Four lakes, your best bet for more building time is to attack your opponent. They can't hit your base if they're busy responding to your attacks.
Yeah the AoE community has some neat sites and features to check stats :)
I also just took the liberty to download the replay of your game and take a look at it. Some general thoughts:
- You didn't produce (enough) villagers throughout the entire game. A general thing to keep in mind is to never ever let your Town Center fall idle as villagers are the backbone of your economy. Try to keep a 50/50 balance between Eco units (Villagers/Fishing boats) and military units
- Your opponent did something known as Castle Drop which can be powerful but also fail if you manage to kill their construction villagers
Also, as Megan pointed out: Cicero's BO guide is super helpful. I learnt my first BO with it - the Scout Rush :)
Awesome ty!
