Download But Cant Play

I have downloaded this game, but when I press play it was go back to the green button to click play. Any suggestions.

Have you tried adding the entire game folder to antivirus exceptions? Also try verifying integrity of game files from Steam.

you would have to provide more info. Is there any message popping up instead of the game starting? any reaction to the play button at all? was it ever working on the same machine or did it stop working not long ago?

Not messages, it does'nt start at all, just the begining with 3 face pict and then crash.
Yes is the same machine, last time I'd Play is 20 days ago more and less, and it worked perfectely. I just reinstall all again now from steam, but it give me the same problem

I just downloaded the game today and it runs like I've started it in pentium 2 from 99'. What the actual hell is going on. I have good specs on a 1 year old pc. This is not normal. ALl other games I have are running fine.

Check "Microsoft Visual C++" in your PC. You need "MV C++ 2015-2019" in order to run the game.

try temporarily disabling any antivirus software that you might be running and make sure your windows operating system is fully up to date, and is in fact Windows 10, not 7. You might want to run a driver scan to see if you have any drivers that need updating too.

I find the solution: the problem was in Steam Software I had to uninstal steam and reinstall it again, now is working fine everithing.

Hi Berskyo!

I recommend you to try some stuff:

1. Deleting your user files. For deleting your user files, you should:

a. Make sure that your Steam Cloud is disabled in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, General.
b. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE.
c. Copy your user folder to a safe place, it has lots of numbers.
d. Delete the original folder
e. Verify your files in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, Local Files.
f. Open the game again. A new user folder will be created.

If this works, then copy back the files from your old user folder. Those files are in the folder -C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\<0>\Savegame, Recorded Games and Save games.

If this does not work you can also try:

2. Reinstall the game
3. Unable your mods
4. Uninstall Citrix, Mcafee, Malwarebytes, Bitdefender, Avast or AVG programs if you have them, these programs could make your pc slower.
5. Reinstall your graphic drivers, update Windows
6. Update direct X
7. Make sure that your game is not running on the integrated GPU
8. Restart your PC and close as many background programs as you can before starting the game.
9. Disable Enhanced Graphics if your hardware is not very fast

11. Reinstall Steam
