cant play SP offline
i took my PC away where i have no internet connect with hope i could be playing a game that has a single player feature offline on steam. i have a paid game that is single player but need to be connected to the internet to play... its damm right stupid... i looked this up and i have found posts dating as far back as 8 years ago with this problem.. please get this fixed i shouldn't have to be connect to the internet for a game i own that is single player to play... i cant describe my disappointment when i couldn't launch it.... (actual game problem it dont load even in offline mode it boots and force closes before you even get a graphic of the game on the screen, this problem has been addressed and not fixed for years upon my research. please fix it

Found some more useful information, you may have to make sure that your computer's XBOX game bar overlay is not running to run the game offline. For those who aren't familiar with it, it's basically some bloatware that comes with the home version of windows nowadays so if you're running a home version of windows, it's probably on there.

its a YOU problem not a game problem. They want your data so you give them your data and you can play the game. Thats the deal....

not its really not a me problem. if i cant connect to the internet i should still be able to play a single player game its that simple. AoE has always worked offline but yet wont on steam versions

yes there is loads of games its something they can fix and sort. when choosing steam offline mode it will let you play your single player games offline without a internet connection

Yeah an internet connection being required for a single-player game you paid for is unacceptable imo. I hope it's a bug and not intended.

its not like im doing it by choice is it mate, if i had the choice to connect to the internet at the time i wouldn't be having this problem and i wouldn't be making this post. use your brain please before you comment... not everyone is constantly connected to the internet and travel about

this is strange. I remember buying Aoe II HD Edition (the one released in 2013) and played it in steam offline mode for years. I didnt know Definitive edition required a constant internet connection? Does it boot you out of the game if your connection is cut? Reminds me of ubisoft's uplay lol.

Its their stupid terms they make you agree to that started 2 months ago...
Its complete bs for someone who isn't online to agree to them. But you can play in offline mode after that. I agree its ridiculous... leave the game a neg review until they fix it.

i mean thats bloody stupid and i dont agree with it but i can find it in myself to put a thumbs down on this game just because of that as the game its self is great xD

You should have bought the game discs for the game. That way you would own it and could play it off-line.

there are no discs for definitive edition. discs only exist for 13+5 civs.

So good news, bad news.
This does not seem to be on purpose, it seems to be a bug. I did some digging, disconnected my stuff from the internet, and launched the game successfully.
Other people have reported the same issue you're having, but many have also reported that they have no problem launching the game offline.
I noticed that if I try to skip the opening cutscene when launching offline, the game crashes.
One way or another, it's worth a bug report. Send them stuff like your computer specs, operating system version, drivers, you name it. It's not consistent across users which means it's one of the weird ones where anything might be helpful.
