For campaigns: Dawn of the Dukes, especially because the stories of the three campaigns intertwine.

For civs: Dynasties of India. It has the most amount of civs.

If you want to play AoE 1 in AoE 2: Return of Rome.

If you only get one, get Dawn of the Dukes. It is best for campaign content and gives you Poles, a really fun civ to play.

I would say it depends if you are into the campaigns or just multiplayer. Personally I have not touched the campaigns so I cannot judge what's worth your money there. Regarding multiplayer I stopped buying DLCs after "Dynasties of India". I enjoyed the new factions from "Lords of the West" and "Dawn of the Dukes", but DoI already felt like a money grab to me. I also do not like that they ruin classic civs to split them up into new civs.

Grab DotD and LotW and see if you want more?

I made the mistake of buying Dawn of the Dukes instead of just keeping away from any DLC of a game I owned back at the actual release. Feels way to milky for me and I actually still haven't even considered AoE IV for a couple of reasons. The cartoon-ish look was a big bleh for a guy with a 4090 wanting photo realism. When I saw what they did to the AoE III city building I was even more disheartened.

All we needed was functioning AI, better pathing and some graphical overhauls at best. :_RIP_:

Dynasties of Indias is the only one you need.

Franchise is on sale so I want to complete my AoE2DE collection with "dynasties of India", "mountain royals", "return to Rome".

I'm a little "scared" about Return to Rome, why does it have so many bad reviews?? Is it woth it?? I just want to play campaigns, no online.

Return of Rome is a different kind of DLC because if you're really only interested in AoE 2, it only adds Romans as a playable civ. It however does add AoE 1 as a separate game mode and comes with 3 original campaigns on top.

depends on what your palystyle is and which kind of civs you like i suggest checking what pros and cons each dlc civ got

Almost of them including even Mountain Royals (except for cosmetics dlc), but if there was one dlc some people may not want besides cosmetics dlc packs it is Return to Rome (RoR). I like this pack personally, but it is also the lowest rated pack right now on Steam as well for AoE II: DE with mixed reviews. Even I personally that RoR is only a mixed bag at best.

Campaigns of ROR is pretty good surprisingly, just one minor thing about ROR that still makes it kinda a suck DLC.

Most of the DLC contents are AOE1DE being ported over. You can guess it's like adding a different game into your game.

Also AOE2 Romans civ has no campaign and you need ROR to play them, which nails the coffin review.

I think you need to do deep research before purchasing ROR. If not then skip.

All but the one just announced. But some of the later ones are worth less than their predecessors because they halved the CIVs for about the same price.

I know ROR is aoe1 ported in aoe2 but all I care about are sp campaigns, if these are good they're worth 7€.

The three original campaigns for ROR are quality-wise on par with the AoE 2 ones. The ones that have been ported from AoE 1 sadly already show their age.
