There is no reason why the AOE franchise treats them poorly.
I do not know why they can't do the Hongwu Emperor and the Red Turban rebellion that overthrew the Yuan and led to the Ming dynasty,
2. Tale of the Dragon was DLC for the AoM extended edition, not for the base game nor the Titans expansion. Why do you expect it to be in Retold from the start?
3. It is an upgrade of the engine and includes some small improvements. I don't know if you are aware of how much work that entails, but if not then I'd challenge you to pick any game made between 2000 and 2005 and make it in UE5 with new/updated assets and animations (that you also created yourself). If you do know how much work it is to move a 22 year old game to a new engine, then you wouldn't wonder why they left out DLC that was created 14 years after the original game's release.
Tales of the Dragon was the worst DLC ever exist for AOM Extended Edition. Bland campaign, and the Chinese civ feels like some mods.
Honestly, porting over the OG Chinese and campaign is going to cause some bitterness. So the civ definitely needs a huge rework, though I wonder how the devs will tackle this.
I think I will wait. If enough demands aand time, maybe we could get a proper reworked Chinese, with a solid story than the mess of ToTD.
Pretty much. When remaking an old game, you're stuck with the paradox of staying true to the original while also trying to improve upon it. If the initial product was crap, then staying true produces crap, while making big improvements makes it untrue to the original.
It was completely the right call not to include it, at least for now -- no matter what they did, someone was going to be unhappy, and better to use the time making sure the content people actually liked gets proper attention.
Aaah, I can't wait for AoM, I miss the arcade mode.
Then hopefully they include more scenarios later. There is space in China and Korea in the expansion's map.
I still think that Forgotten Empires is holding out with China because they want to eventually add Tibet as well as an official civilization where Tibet gets their own campaign (which will probably be 5 missions instead of 6 missions) against China and not only just a historical battle. Also, a dlc for adding Tibet and their own campaign could potentially add a full campaign for China as well. Factor in one other new civilization (Thai?) as well and we get a dlc that is comparable Mountain Royals when it comes to the number of new civilizations and new campaigns. I would not be surprised if the next dlc for adding new civilizations is going to be Asian instead of European, MesoAmerican (although, it is less likely to get another dlc than an African dlc), or African because Tibet is still missing and surprisingly has not been added yet to AoE II: DE.
China has its own unique history as well and was not always Communist with an evil dictator/president. China deserves to have their own campaign just like Tibet assuming they both get added later from a dlc with a China campaign and a Tibet campaign. Chinese have a campaign on AoE III: DE. Why not on AoE II: DE as well?
I don't. I think new civs are done.
And AOE has a poor record with China and campaign content, with AOE3's campaign being highly unrepresentative of them. No AOE4 campaign either.
But we get another Genghis Khan scenario....yawn.
