Why do Slav villagers speak Russian?

As a non-Russian Slav i find it insulting

Aren't the Slavs from all over Eastern Europe, from Bulgaria to Russia? Which language would you like them to speak? Romanian, Latvian, Ukranian? I know fairly little about Slavic history or languages but I don't think there's one language which fits them all. There were Russian speaking Slavs so why not choose Russian?

The Celts were from all over the British Isles but they have one language in the game while in reality there were several. The Goths use German instead of the dozens of languages Goths from all over Europe spoke. Goths of all sorts ranged from Portugal to Poland but the devs have to pick a language pack and German is as good as any other.

They speak russian because they are Russians .

Although the Slavs were meant to represent all slavic cultures, they are mainly designed after the Russians (Orthodoxy, Druzhina[en.m.wikipedia.org] and the Boyar[en.m.wikipedia.org]).

in aoe slav=rus in the same way britton= engish (briton is most commanly applyed to welsh and cumbric historicly) frank = french (frank germanic french latinised) and tuton = germans (theres about 20 germanic stems in the timeframe rangeing from braviain to saxon) poles and rus have enough diffrences to be 2 civs but the poles thunder got stolen by the magyars who do the hussar but better thing all ready

I did not say my civ is better than others for instance if i had to choose i would first place Chinese or Greeks instead of us because they are older and have had more direct impact

i'm not against the addition of a polish civ (nor do i disagree that it's weird that the slavic civ seems more russian than slavic), but to act like lithuania is less historically relevant than poland is... a bit weird, considering They Were The Same Thing For A Few Centuries, And It Was Kind Of A Big Deal.
...actually, the very list you linked includes lithuania, right there with poland, because they were unified at the time. it even says it's the polish-lithuanian union.

It's non sensne lithuanians deseved to be here that's why they're here even it's late (2020) if Poland isn't inside that means they didn't do very much impressive at this period sorry.

Lithuanians got the commonwealth and Tannenberg and Magyars got the huskarls, each one got this impact on history.

There are only 35 civs to choose (too many), do you really expect every single civs in the entire world?
