Rise of Nations has the most advanced interface I have seen so far.
I recommend taking this game as reference to make control more comfort.

Doesn't seem to be feature you would want in such RTS like AOE2. MQ is already way to produces easily units from all over map.

It will be handy to produce villigers when booming or make trash units in the mid-late game. Even with these functions, the game still have lots of things needed to be managed.

The only way I could support this is if the game had particular modes - for example, a simplified game mode with various automations and an advanced mode for regular play without automations.
