it's not really question whether you have 4k or 1080p but how good pc and how much RAM you have. better quality textures will always look a bit better despite your resolution

It uses higher resolution sprites so looks better regardless. It also gives you the ability to zoom the camera in closer.

It's a huge improvement in image quality and the zoom level it offers is better imo
(max zoom out is similar to like Age2HD and max zoom in is something like Age2CD at 640x480 or 800x600)

Yes if your computer hardware can handle it (Graphics card and enough RAM), it is definitely worth it. I have a 1080p screen and the UHD textures look awesome. Now the old textures look blurry to me. But you have to have the RAM and an okay GPU to handle it. 16 GB total RAM is a minimum.

Look not much more better! But the problem is : The zoom out level is not so high with the dlc-pack.
Without the dlc-pack you can more zoom out and so you can see more....better for the
map-overview.

The max zoom-in level is very close and you will not play in soch close zoom in level very often.

Think to play without the dlc pack for 1080p is the better option.
The advantage for a very little bit better grafic is too small and the very close zoom in level is useless for tactical gameplay.

1. If your pc configuration can handle the minimum requirements. It needs at least 16gb physical rams (It is recommended more virtual rams be set to run) and your graphics card is run well on this game

2. 1080p just runs without texture patch is good enough, the patch just make you have bigger zoom ratio. The models on the game are still not clear on 1080p if patch is installed or not

3. 4k monitor can perform this patch well significantly, even having 2k resolution i still not recommend to install this patch.

If you like to do just about nothing in the game and zoom all the way in to look at horses legs and stuff.... sure get it.
but honestly, any current RTS , even AOE 3 looks better and uses way less ram. this game just isn't right. but the fan base wins

I have 16GB of RAM and 8GB VRAM. Then I‘ll try if you say quality will get better. If it runs to slow I can go back anyway I think. Thank all of you for helpful answers!

Yeah, not being able to zoom out quite as much is a little annoying with the UHD graphics. And zooming in super close in an RTS is pretty pointless even if it does look pretty good.

Overall I'd say the UHD graphics aren't necessary, but if your computer can handle it the improved eye candy is quite nice. I'm on a 1080p screen and I find the UHD graphics to be a nice improvement.

@tavren_elkair

And have you no problem that you cant zoom out very much ? Will be the game not be very hectical when you must scroll the map in battles so often?

I am not sure if it is better to play with or without the dlc in 1080p. But lol i am very sure for me is a 177 hz tft much more better than all the 4K hype.
CalicoJack Dec 15, 2019 @ 6:48pm
just give it a try, i prefer the better image but you have less zoom out

if you dont like it disable it in the options... no harm

Haha yeah I prefer 4K over high refresh rate but I don't play really fast paced games (mostly just RPGs and strategy games). I do have a 4k TV but my computer screen is pretty ordinary (1080p 60 refresh rate IPS panel, though it is 27 inches which isn't bad). I prefered getting a bigger screen over a more expensive refresh rate or resolution, and I didn't have much money at the time to spend a lot.

It's funny how different features appeal to different people. My parents, for instance, put a lot of value in a good surround system for their TV but I prefer a better picture and would rather pay more for that and not bother with surround sound. To each their own.

Yes i dont play fast shooter too. But 4K is for me rubbish. Only a little bit more quality but your system must be very fast to handle it. And the most shooter (sloer tactical games or faster shooter) you dont notice a big difference.

But it is typical mainstreamhype: All must have it because "4K is so great". For example in maps with a lot of grassmbushes, trees 4K is very slow. Framerate is not smooth ( again 60 frames is not every time smooth).

It is like with anialiasing: you see the different between 2x and 4x....but you will not see a very big different between 4x and 8x antialiasing.

4K is great for user they work with phote, grafic(designer ect. But for games 4K is not a must have.

My IIyama 27 zoll and 144 hz have a very good grafic-quality and for games much good enough.

With 4K you have very often 1/4 of the frames you can have with 1080p .

The difference betwwen 4k and 1080p is much too low and reduce the performance and smooth gameplay too much for the result of 4K.

But typical mainstreamblabla when all say 4K is great and 1080p rubbish all will believe it.

Lol next step are the 8K TV.

And for games grafic is not all (many mainstream-kiddies will never understand this). Grafic is only a P A R T of a game. More important is the gameplay/mechanics,is the game good ect.

But you read it most time when a new game is or will be released: Grafic blabla.
And so many kiddies cry when a game have not great grafic/high end grafic.
Many very good (not mainstream-)games will be not played because not high end grafic.

Grafic is only a bonus, but in this modern age most player forget it and play better simple games they are actionmess and more a grafic-demo .

And when you play games in 1080p you have enough ressources to set many graficsetting to very high ans so it looks sometimes better than 4K .

Cant understand all the 4K Hype. Absolute useless for players. But grafic-junkies love it !
Kinvadren Dec 16, 2019 @ 9:26pm
Yup I mostly agree. Currently the amount of power, data and hardware overhead for 4k is still just too hungry for me to consider it worth it most of the time. I do have a 4k TV because it was a good deal and I like a big screen (which makes a better resolution more important). I do love the clarity of it, but I'm perfectly happy with 1080p like blu-rays or on streaming. The massive jump in required internet bandwidth or extra cost or greatly reduced frame rates keeps me stuck at 1080p because I just don't see the value yet. DVD resolution to blu-ray was a big and obvious jump, but 1080p to 4k isn't anywhere near as impactful but is still really hard on hardware and expensive.

I agree with you! The better texture enhancement is not worth the Zoom out loss, which is for me a great feature in this Age2 DE. So I decided to go back to the regular texture, unless one day there's a mod that allows you to zoom-out further
