Return of Rome Multiplayer is empty?
First days I saw a lot of people playing this game mode, but after some time I come back to play again, and saw that RoR servers are empty. Why is this possible?

I have the AoE 1 DE too, and there are still many games; and this game that is someway better cuz formations and unit movements... is dead?

It's a main problem of gameplay and marketing of ROR.

AOE1DE's gameplay is rather unbalanced, and it's just snowballing to win. That trait remains till ROR.

There are still some active ROR communities on Discord, which you can easily find people there to play with. It's just, pretty much a barren land just like AOE1.

They should of tried giving it actual match making but even then the population would be small, since it's a DLC you have to buy. On top of the fact AoE1 is just weird design wise. It's why AoE2 is just more popular. Better mechanics, better unit design. More uniqueness between civs.

RoR multiplayer dlc I think is actually worse than AoE: DE multiplayer in comparison, because probably more people play AoE: DE multiplayer than from the RoR dlc. If someone were to purchase RoR for only just multiplayer from the ported part then expect to be disappointed since the new Roman civilization is the only part of this dlc considered useful for multiplayer from the normal part of the game as opposed to the ported Age of Empires. It is mostly beneficial for mainly just achievements, the new Roman civilization, and single player.

Yea, although I love the change in ROR, it's questionable when bringing it into MP scene. Most team bonus plays not so balanced and pretty much pick your better Heathstone card.

Because no one want to play RoR

Nah, people are interested, ranked however is virtually dead because you have to host lobbies like for Deathmatch instead of matchmaking.

Return of Rome is a big piece of S...T. They did that in order to earn money. Lot of people play that only for campaigns, but multiplayer is very bad balanced.

RoR is a huge missed opportunity. Many AoE1 players still play the original or the DE version instead. For AoE2 players, the changes were too little. AoE1 is so outdated that much radical changes were needed.
At least the 3 new campaigns are really good. The ported original still suck.

Yeah, future of RoR I think lies in the SP campaigns, maybe even co-op as well (but so far there isn't a single one yet). Perhaps some joke game modes could be made, but not sure what.

I originally gave RoR only a 5 out of 10 rating on Steam. I only added in .5 points since then to a rating of 5.5 out of 10 with the two newest campaigns were added officially. While these newest campaigns give you more of something to do the problem is that they are also too easy overall in comparison to the DE version even when set to "hard" difficulty. Even if more campaigns were to be added in the future I just barely would recommend this dlc and could understand why some people might skip it as well.

So overall, pros: Improved civilizations with some changes (including female villagers finally), apparently better pathfinding, the new Roman civilization, three new campaigns unique to RoR in addition to Lac Viet, and some people might like the map editor for creating custom scenarios on the ported version more than custom scenarios on AoE: DE.

Cons: May not be practical for multiplayer and mainly for just single player besides the new Roman civilization, maybe not enough campaigns at least when it first came out, (minor con) you cannot change the game speed anytime you want contrary to AoE: DE where you might have to set the game speed even before the game starts from the options menu, the team bonuses from ported RoR may be controversial because of being imbalanced, the new Romans do not get their own campaign (although, there is free mod for adding the Julius Caesar campaign to help make up for this lack of campaign), and various other reasons as explained from other players (such as upsetting both AoE II: DE and AoE: DE players for example and perhaps various other "valid" reasons).

Mixed: The newest campaigns are nice additions, but for right now it seems like they are too easy and might not have any replay ability if they overall seem boring and not fun or interesting enough once completing them all on hard difficulty.

Yes, matchmaking would probably be a really good thing :)

While problems associated with multiplayer are the most obvious for RoR and was this thread's main point across there are unfortunately various other issues on RoR as well besides just multiplayer including single player. That was my point from previous comment. Overall, RoR I think is a mixed bag at best (although, I do think that it should be ranked a little higher than it is right now at least 50% instead of 40's percent meaning that it could be underrated slightly on Steam), but at the same time some people on Steam might also like RoR more than others. Mixed Steam reviews and maybe not enough people on multiplayer from RoR however does not necessarily mean that RoR is dead.

I'd actually give it a 7-8 out of 10. RoR exactly gave me what I always wanted - AoE 1 revamped with some AoE 2 elements.

doesnt seem to be good enough, hence the low player count in MP. also people dont wanna pay for another version of the game
