AOE1DE's gameplay is rather unbalanced, and it's just snowballing to win. That trait remains till ROR.
There are still some active ROR communities on Discord, which you can easily find people there to play with. It's just, pretty much a barren land just like AOE1.
RoR multiplayer dlc I think is actually worse than AoE: DE multiplayer in comparison, because probably more people play AoE: DE multiplayer than from the RoR dlc. If someone were to purchase RoR for only just multiplayer from the ported part then expect to be disappointed since the new Roman civilization is the only part of this dlc considered useful for multiplayer from the normal part of the game as opposed to the ported Age of Empires. It is mostly beneficial for mainly just achievements, the new Roman civilization, and single player.
Nah, people are interested, ranked however is virtually dead because you have to host lobbies like for Deathmatch instead of matchmaking.
At least the 3 new campaigns are really good. The ported original still suck.
So overall, pros: Improved civilizations with some changes (including female villagers finally), apparently better pathfinding, the new Roman civilization, three new campaigns unique to RoR in addition to Lac Viet, and some people might like the map editor for creating custom scenarios on the ported version more than custom scenarios on AoE: DE.
Cons: May not be practical for multiplayer and mainly for just single player besides the new Roman civilization, maybe not enough campaigns at least when it first came out, (minor con) you cannot change the game speed anytime you want contrary to AoE: DE where you might have to set the game speed even before the game starts from the options menu, the team bonuses from ported RoR may be controversial because of being imbalanced, the new Romans do not get their own campaign (although, there is free mod for adding the Julius Caesar campaign to help make up for this lack of campaign), and various other reasons as explained from other players (such as upsetting both AoE II: DE and AoE: DE players for example and perhaps various other "valid" reasons).
Mixed: The newest campaigns are nice additions, but for right now it seems like they are too easy and might not have any replay ability if they overall seem boring and not fun or interesting enough once completing them all on hard difficulty.
I'd actually give it a 7-8 out of 10. RoR exactly gave me what I always wanted - AoE 1 revamped with some AoE 2 elements.
doesnt seem to be good enough, hence the low player count in MP. also people dont wanna pay for another version of the game
