Speaking of castles towards the end of the campaign I actually had five castles standing. Four from the south and one from the north, but far away from the wall. Just for protecting a gold mine. Two were alongside the river and another two were build to protect the docks in front. Apparently, the villagers will not rebuild the docks either if you destroy them. I think that I only lost a castle two or three times on moderate difficulty only from the south, but not really until late game. The castle I built in the north was late game. How long does it take you to win on hard difficulty for this campaign?
Time can be varied since it's a long time since I play those maps.
One thing I noticed that various other youtubers did wrong even if they are better at winning a game faster than me without cheating. They should have built in both north and south, but none of them did. Not even Ornlu the wolf youtuber built a base in both locations; although, that was also based on 2020 as well instead of 2023 and even if I did not watch any youtube videos before playing this campaign I probably would have only gone north or south instead of both locations at least to begin with. Having a base only in the north or south only seems to make sense on standard difficulty, but even then this is the smartest strategy of using both north and south I have used yet for this campaign regardless of difficulty settings. Contrary to what some people might think I also disagree that Genoa (green) is necessarily the easiest civilization to go after instead of Venice (purple) especially with needing to replace three gates instead of only just one gate.
