Since they changed it, it should be possible to view the file that scripts population caps and add in 1000 to the list of numbers

you'd be lucky if it synced correctly at all past 200, i mean 8,000 individual units, hundreds of buildings, flying feathery parasites, hairy four legged scavengers and herbivores, plus entries for fish, berry bush, gold and stone deposits, then you got individual trees and bushes.
AOE2 is not optimised or designed to handle that many units, but you can use mods and test it yourself.
