Can't play the AI - they just walk into castles.
Still stuck playing all the closed maps with arabia favourited as well. 4 closed maps, 3 bans.
I've almost never been so disappointed spend all my time playing a game and this is the result...
calm down dude. Two losses in a row are rarely nice. However I doubt that this byz strat can not be countered
Obuch has a bonus against buildings and fully upgraded Elite Obuch they still took 5 minutes to take down a byzantine fortified gate
I could see the Byzantine villagers number all game in my castle before clicking spies it's so boring
It's so easy for Byzantine to do this into Fast chemistry cannons and boom to 200 pop then spam their arbalest cataphracts
I played on Hideout twice on a row separate days and two separate Byz players do this exact strategy.
There is 4 closed maps in pool, 3 bans.
On Hideout they just wall half the map. (after relics ofc...)
he said it was arena.
he said they walled in the gates on Arena with Byzantine walls.
That doesn't explain a lot. On arena, you lose most resources when staying in your fortress. On hideout, you can simply use sneak villagers or simply push through the wood line.
These drops all add up and eventually you'll be banned for hours and days at a time. Because the matchmaking gives you non arabia players who do their special wall booms on hideout and arena and you can't ban all maps.
On Arena the Byzantine trush walling in gates should be banned or nerfed. Celts drush and Persia TC etc all got nerfed.
It all boils down to 4 closed maps, 3 map bans.
Plus two byzantine monasteries & a market is basically unstoppable they can basically convert your mangonels and rams easy. So they've forced you into booming for 60 minutes until they reach Cataphract fully upgraded. No other civ can just wall the map and reach their post imp death ball like the Byzantines lel.
Woohoo this is the golden age of AoE!!!!!!!!
Plus all the 1v1's are on Megarandom and Arena and Hideout and Coastal etc. and you can't ban them all
Plus Empire Wars isn't popular and all the lumber camps spawn in bad places etc. next to like 2 trees in a tiny corner of the big forests as if every map is Atacama
Maybe he played a civ without access to rams/petards.
If you don't know how to play a map, cry for mommy/nerf.
They need to be close to the ram to convert it, that's different from converting mangonels, scorpions and bombards at a distance. There are hussars and cavalry archers to counter monks. By the time they have to exit their gates to convert your rams (let's suppose you attack walls instead of gates), they will be dead but such a strategy sounds weird for me because other players usually counter rams with cavalry (and even if Byzs lack blast furnace, their paladins can still destroy siege weapons easily). However, I often see people destroying walls with trebuchets on Arena and then send in their troops.
If this happens in team games, it most depends on your opponents' and your mate skill.
Elite Cataphracts must be countered with cavalry or archers.
And I don't agree on the 60 minutes mark and the other comment saying they hide behind walls once they get relics. Imperial Age can be reached in about 30-35 mins (1.7 speed) and conscription is usually the first technology to be researched. You can build a decent army before, most people even upgrade their armies later but they do effective attacks even before Imperial. As for the relics, exploration exists for a reason and enemy monks can be still kept away from them, or enemy villagers can be killed way before they build a wall in the middle of the map (Hideout). Even outposts can be placed to see any foes in the area.
Or you pick Khmer as Ballista Eles can already cut down trees in Castle Age.
