Is this game Multiplayer Only or I Can play it singleplayer?

It has a crazy amount of singleplayer campaigns and the random map games can also be played against the computer.

Plenty to do for sure, personally I have zero interest in multiplayer and when it's online against strangers it might as well be against bots anyway.

As Rhalius pointed out - there are tons of Singleplayer campaigns (iirc 22 alone in the base game). Some of those campaigns are also available to play in two player coop.

The MP scene is also quite active so you'll get enjoyment in both SP and MP. Among all Age games it's probably the one that caters to each crowd equally - the campaign only player, the one playing ranked, the one who always does MP vs the AI with friends and so on.

The pvp can get really sweaty and tryhard, so if you want to avoid future health complications, sticking to sp or co op is probably best.

Just as a note: the game has good learning resources as in tutorials and guides that prepare you for pvp in case you ever want to give it a try.

There's a lot of single player content, and the game has probably the best AI opponent for skirmish matches out of any RTS too.

been playing AOE 2 since it originally release over 20 years ago, and i could count on 1 hand the times ive played multiplayer online lol.
ive pld offline skirmish mode for the majority of it against bots, its only in the last couple of weeks ive got stuck into the campaign, only 20+ years late haha

It's funny because I was in a similar spot two years ago - played vs AI for the longest of my time, sometimes LAN with friends but never online. I wanted to overcome my anxiety and here I am two years later, thinking that 2's MP isn't the usual "toxic" place people want MP to sound like.
Ofc you should know the basics before hopping into ranked (learnt that the hard way) but ultimately imo it's more fun than to play against AI that become too predictable.

Lol thats me. But only for like 3 or 4 years. Finished all campaigns over and over again. I wish more campaigns would be available oficially or that I could somehow try to contribute to that. I play multiplayer only with friends because the community is toxic (gameplay and behavior).

How is AoE 2's community toxic? I mean, it's not Counter Strike where you can learn insults in many different languages. 2's MP community is wholesome and mature

Absolutely. As an extreme example, I've literally made scenario maps with the in-game editor, that re-create They Are Billions game mechanics/end game events to a tee. I got bored with the typical match. Didnt really care for multiplayer. So I just re-made a different game in aoe2s editor so i could play They are Billions and aoe2 at the same time.

This game has like 15 years worth of singe-player content. And then it organically recycles itself into infinity because by the time you finish it all, you realize how many other ways you can play the game without ever hosting a lobby.
