But I hope so. AOE I Civs vs AOE II Civs wouldn't make any sense.
So yeah, info in the coming months.
Developers really should stop announcing stuff if it doesn't at least come with a bit of info of what it's even about, especially if it will take almost another year before you hear anything else.
They should follow Triumph Studios example. Announced Age of Wonders 4 a few weeks ago with 40 minutes of gameplay footage, explained quite a bit about the game and also mentioned the early May release date.
So that's not a long waiting period either.
There has been two betas for return of rome after annoucement
It's just AoE1, from leaks I've seen. Nothing like "AoE1 inspired" civs. There was a leaked civilization select screen for AoE1 that showed that there was some rebalancing of civ bonuses, alongside team bonuses being added. No unique units or unique technologies in that select screen.
There was also a leaked picture of a Roman-style AoE2 Castle, which some have interpreted to mean the Romans are being added as an AoE2 civ. Alternatively, it's a new Castle for the Byzantines, or maybe just a scenario editor only building. People claiming to have seen it seem to contradict each other on whether or not it is for a new civ or not.
