Recent game crashes. Masterpost

I've been trying to look into recent game crashes to try to provide the devs with more information. I believe this recent string is related to the following post, I am receiving the same errors in my logs as mentioned here. It was stated there was a patch applied previously that fixed it, so I'm fairly sure they somehow broke that fix with the recent addition of some additional achievements/the recent patch.
At this time this is a very consistent crash, usually within 15-30 minutes of the game being up. Happens every time without fail. Game unplayable. Window just closes and you are prompted when the game reopens to give more information. I have uninstalled UHD, Any mods including official ones, and reinstalling and verifying files does nothing as well. Additionally, updated graphic drivers and up to date version of windows 10 (from what I can tell this is happening regardless of the version of windows/graphics people are using.)

thanks for the report. Sometimes crashes can be caused by unofficial mods, however if you have all mods disabled and the issue continues, then for a proper investigation of a crash like this we would need a minidump file.
Minidumps can be found in “C:\Users\USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\logs” will have date-time format, something like “AoE2DESteam-51577-2021.10.07-10.11.24.mdmp”, it should be at end of the folder.
It would also be helpful if you could use this:

If the game just freezes for you and you are on the enhanced build you can press ctrl+break and the game will be force close generating the mdmp file and you can then upload it here.
Do you get the standard "submit a report" message after you open the game again?

Did the following after reading the post from The Cabbage Man ( thanks for the effort to point in the right direction )

First I checked all Windows Updates

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1. Opened the Microsoft Store and downloaded all updates connected to the Xbox or Live whatever system

2. Reinstalled the game ( first I tried step 3 only but it didn't work )

3. Started the Game and logged into Live from main screen ( upper right corner )

4. resumed savegame that would have normally crashed and noticed cpu load significantly dropped and noticed Xbox Live Achievements popped up ingame ( first time ever )

No crash so far...

also noticed that a mod was installed with vanilla installation ( something anniversary... )
-> deleted that... ( upper right corner cogwheel then mods )

@Kane Ok dude so far so good. I think the issue comes down to not being logged into xbox account.. Once I did that, I noticed I was getting these* achievements and suddenly no more crashes. Good stuff thanks!!! Spread the info!

Would recomment to first check if you have all updates. My first try was to log into Live but that did not help. Maybe my installation was also corrupt or I missed some updates to the Live Services... by following the steps you can assure that everything is up to date and you have a clean installation... but I am glad it helped.

Hmm. I can't get xbox to actually sign out of the app. I had the acheivements the first day or two after the console release and I haven't since. So this is probably it. However even with making sure the app is updated and signing out of the gamebar, AOE, and the app, it just doesn't fully sign out for some reason in game. I'm tired of dealing with this for now, but this is most likely the issue.

For the last days I am getting crashes nearly every time in the lobby. Mostly when we just found a game within the 60 secs prepare time. Once we made it into the game. then it crashed early castle age. Game is unplayable like this.

What i tried:
- reinstall the game
- let steam check for corrupted game files.
- check if im signed in with xbox, because someone in this thread talked about it fixing it maybe.
- restart my computer.
- nvidia drivers are up to date
- all win updates are installed
- checking task manager for unusual load on cpu or something. -> nothing obvious.
- disabled auto HDR feature of win11.

Problem still remains. Nothing worked so far. i have win11, 9900k and rtx4090. Someone has any idea?

Windows STORE Updates ( the Live and Xbox ones ) also up to date? I think the problems with the lobby also divert from the only CTD ones but I am not sure... still have the feeling this is also connected to the xbox live services updates

Thanks for the idea, Kane. Did it now. Something "xbox game bar" did need an update.

Sadly it didnt help... I just found a 2v2 and again: It crashed within the 60 secs before game loads in.

Just a guess... have you checked the box with '' enable crossplay'' ?

well @kane. I thought your fix worked... i logged into the xbox and i played 2 hours without a crash until just now. RIP. thanks anyway.

i read somewhere else to update the c++ runtime . that finally did the job for me! so far 2 games without crashes

isn't that part of the regular windows updates? Which windows is on your PC?
