Reassigning hotkeys to extra mouse buttons?
Hi All,

I recently bought a Scimitar RGB Elite mouse that has 12 extra buttons. I have installed the Scimitar software on my PC and set up some hotkeys already for some web browser related activities and they work perfect. Strangely, when I try to create hotkeys for AOE2 DE in Steam under "Setting - Hotkeys" when I select a command and click "change selected" it only allows to change the action to a responding keyboard button and not a mouse button. Has anyone set any extra buttons on their mouse in the settings menu? I googled it but it doesn't seem anyone else had similar issues (and also everyone is pretty much using a keyboard for shortcuts). Any suggestions? Thank you.

I guess Aoe can't support your 12 buttons. I think you could create a macro that turns your mouse buttons into keyboard inputs and then bind the keyboard hotkeys on AoE

Most games will support 5 buttons (left, right, middle, forward, back), beyond that you will have to do as Zbak says and bind the mouse buttons to keyboard keys.

I'm not familiar with Scimitar but I use a Logitech mouse and in the software for that you can setup per game profiles that automatically get used depending on what game/application is running. It's such a common and useful feature I suspect your mouse will have software that does it also. In that case you would leave the AoE keys the same (or as you like them) and change the mouse buttons so they send q/w/e/r etc instead.
