when i first played this, just as i was about to take the last village, the mongols send a large army with rams to attack the first one (which i'd left empty). the second time, they attacked the third village (this is all on hard difficulty btw).
so in other words, don't just liberate the villages, protect them as well. the way i did it, as you only have a pop cap of 150 and stone is scarce, i sent 10 vills and 20 crossbows with my (mostly kipchak) army. once i liberated a village (that didn't already have a tc), i plopped a tc in the middle and garrisoned 4 crossbows and moved on, and build a couple of vills in that tc for extra garrisoned arrows/repairs, and left 4 knights/lcav for ram attacks.
it did slow me down a bit, but the 40 minute sabutai timer isn't too bad as he appears on the right of the map and attacks your home base first, so you still have a good while to win the level.
hope this helps?
