As a reminder thought. Unique unit dosen't always mean the best a civilization has to offer. Some truly fills a very niche role. So, if the rest of the civ is balanced to compensate then it shouldn't be seen as an issue.
Also, historic inaccuracies are all over this game so this is a moot point to bring. Age of Empires includes some historic elements but often warp it around a bit for the sake of gameplay.
But this unique unit is the most unuseful one. No one wants to head to head melee with this unit for high melee armor. It's like no one wants to play with him strategically since high resources spending, slow unit, high melee armor.
So whats this unit best for outside of its cool appearance?
The current teutonic knight could be delegated to a mercenary spot like the condottieri, if kept in the game at all.
The Boyar is just a Paladin with extra melee armor, as a unit who's weak to two common melee units.
they dont get husbandry so no they dont have full paladin upgrades

I know. I'm saying that being a mounted unit defeats the point of being a TK, and the Boyar demonstrates exactly why.
