Age Of Empires II Definitive Edition is not running in Steam
Hi! I would like to know how can I fix my new game Age of Empires II Definitive Edition. Literally I have tried everything, Updates, Uninstall and Install, clear cache in steam, validate files, etc

Hi montesarianny !
I'm sorry to hear that you are having this issue.

I recommend you to try some stuff:

1. Deleting your user files. For deleting your user files, you should:

a. Make sure that your Steam Cloud is disabled in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, General.

b. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE.

c. Copy your user folder to a safe place, it has lots of numbers.

d. Delete the original folder

e. Verify your files in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, Local Files.

f. Open the game again. A new user folder will be created.

If this works, then copy back the files from your old user folder. Those files are in the folder -C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\<0>\Savegame, Recorded Games and Save games.

2. Can you try to add the whole game folder to your antivirus' exception list? C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE is the default, AoE2DE_s.exe is there

Thanks for the report!

sometimes it can't be helped. A lot of people have anti virus programs where they have to add exceptions for AoE2 DE in order for it to work. But when the game gets updated, the anti-virus views it as a completely different game, forcing you to have to add it again as an exception.

In the same boat. Haven't been able to play more than about 10 minutes of the game before it freezes, then shuts down. Ever since the Indian update, can't get this game to work. Installed a new anti-virus, added AOE2 to the "exceptions" list, uninstalled/reinstalled, updated ALL drivers/video cards, etc etc etc. Game is just broken. Too bad really, was gonna buy the Indian DLC if this wasn't the issue. Time to learn Starcraft strats lol

FWIW this is the ONLY Steam game I have that does this. None of my other games are broken like this. Would've bought AOE4 just for kicks if I thought it would be playable, but this experience has me convinced I would just be throwing money down the toilet for yet another unplayable game. Cheers!

Hi Half Fast Effort
Can you send to us the minidumps (.mdmp) that correspond to the day where this happened? Those could be found here:
“C:\Users\USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\logs”
and have this format
"AoE2DESteam-58115-2022.01.19-15.05.33.mdmp"

Thank you!

Send me a friend request, I might be able to offer assistance.

Welcome to my world. I have not been able to play since the update on February 1st. No matter how many logs or mini dumps you send, they don't solve it. The only solutions they propose assume that the error is from the user or his computer, they don't want to recognize that it's their problem.
