Imho there will be more AoEIIDE DLC as long as there are enough players playing the game.
And to this point, keep in mind that the average players for both games are as follows -
AoE 2:DE - 17-23K players (with a hard drop-off to 8K on the release of AoE4).
AoE 3 DE: 3-4K players (with a hard drop-off to 1.5K on the release of AoE 4).
I'm not certain which games playerbase is more willing to buy DLC but safe bets are on the numbers AoE 2: DE has. I'm guessing we'll see something March or June of next year.
Why????
This is a very good game. No others game i know about has so many pro players and steamings. Yes it many years since first released but it's popularity is as high as it has ever been. So why hopefully. That makes no sence unless you earn on that!
I bet aoe 4 is a good game too, with no need to eliminate opponents to be played
As long as there are civilizations to realistically incorporate then yeah, DLC is a great idea. Looking at the earliest campaign (I believe the Gothic 'Forgotten' campaign) vs the latest campaign (Burmese "Rise of the Raja's) there's a 1300 year time period they can pull from. If they start making civs like, say... the Antartic tribes or something then you know it's time to wrap up production.
I like the 2 civs + 3 campaigns for $15 method so far - hell, I'd probably pay $5 for a new 5-6 mission campaign every 3 months in addition to that. The Western and Eastern Europe campaigns have been amazing in terms of difficulty, gameplay features, map design and story. It's also odd that China, with as rich of a history as it has, has no dedicated campaign. I mean with how they've structured the latest campaigns, by focusing on the life and impact of one person's life, you'd be able to get two dozen missions from the 3 Kingdoms period alone.
If I were a betting man I'd say the next expansion is focused on Asia and one after that on American tribes. It let's them pull from assets used in AoE 3:DE (which has pulled assets in turn from AoE 2:DE.)
My personal wish-list of factions:
Western Rome (Counter-part to Byzantines)
Austria
Hungary
Lower / Upper Lorraine
Franconia
'X' Indian tribe
Zapotec's
Han / Ming Dynasty
Will we abandon our longest-enduring classic RTS to focus on our new release? 😱😱😱NO WAY! While we’re thrilled for everything coming for Age of Empires IV, we’re happy to reassure our Age II players that the excitement around Age IV means MORE for you, not less. We’re planning to support Age II: DE for a long, long time, and will soon be able to share an exciting roadmap, with some genuinely awesome reveals coming in the months ahead! – stay tuned and WOLOLO!
You'll be pleased to know some of us outside Hungary know about Magyar ;D
Admittedly I only know because I once asked my what country had Magyar on their postage stamps. That was back in the days before home computers, never mind the Internet.
American ignorance strikes again - my mistake!
More scenario editing tools, a DLC specifically catered towards modders and scenario editors, that streamlines the process and makes it more efficient, and user-friendly. Like a Scenario editor Full Edition instead of the light edition we have now.
