So in the end I had to alt+F4, because the game never took me out of the loading screen. It's unreal to me how such a basic thing, like a max amount of time to load in, never got implemented. I hope Blizzard/Activision will send over some of their talent after Microsoft takes them over, because it's clear that the current dev team needs it.
1. How many times has this happened to you?
2. Do you know of this happening to anyone else?
3. Why should this be prioritized over more pressing matters?
I hope you'll be able to see that my statement was not an insult, nor was it "nonsense" as you put it.
1. I'm not exactly sure, but at least 3 times by now. And this problem always occurred during teamgames.
2. Yes, because these were teamgames, I know that other players in the lobby had the same problem. After all, the game never started and got stuck in the loading screen.
3. Because this is similar to a crash, or a 'softlock' to use speedrunning lingo. And maybe most important: this should be incredibly easy to fix. All they have to do is put a timer on players loading the match and automatically drop anyone who hasn't loaded in when the time expires. To make it fair, I'd suggest the match then wouldn't be recorded when playing on ranked.
To be perfectly honest with you, it's baffling to me how after all of these years such a safeguard hasn't been implemented yet. This is literally the only game I know that has no such thing.
2. I should have been more specific with my question then. Do you know of any independent cases of this happening where you are not one of the participants.
3. At some point you should take it upon yourself to exit AoE2 if you are waiting too long for a player to check in. The incident you described doesn't seem to be as widespread as you think it is.
2. I know of one other person, but I'm not that active in the community, so there's not really any way for me to find out other than to create a thread on a forum like this one.
3. Well, yes, obviously. It's not like I'm still sitting here watching at a loading screen for multiple days. And I don't know how widespread it is, which is one the the reasons I created this thread.
It doesn't feel like you're trying to help, if I'm being totally honest with you. It feels a lot more like you're trying to debunk the problem and make it seem less legit or probable, for some reason.
-From what I theorize, someone else probably crashed, alt f4'd, has a very slow pc, or any combination or other instance that may be possible.
-If you wait long enough and the offending player finally disconnects, the game actually will finish loading for you.
-On the loading screen can't you tell who didn't load yet? Oh yeah your OP said two players.. Generally speaking that's how you can tell who is the problematic player.
Well, if the player alt f4'd or crashed how can he manually disconnect from the game? Wouldn't this cause the problem I described, where the loading screen will never resolve? Besides, the very slow pc thing doesn't hold up, because it never finished loading.
And no, we couldn't say who hadn't loaded yet, which is odd to say the least. Perhaps a server issue then? The 2 player example was in a 3v3, so this didn't exactly narrow it down to one player. All I knew is that it wasn't me or one of my two friends I was playing with.
