How to Play Poles
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMSMZ7m6wPg

Key points: Daut (Poles) got lots of stone to Trush.

That failed miserably. He loses 1 vill and lots of vill working time. But the stone allowed him to build defensive towers.

The gold from the stone helped him get into castle at a comparable time despite him also fighting for three ponds.

He builds a castle to stop a monk push, thanks to the stone he mined.

Daut wins.

Just watched this, but while the tower rush failed, he docked the enemy pond. Killed a bunch of fishing ships and denied food. So while he lost a lot doing the rush he also did damage elsewhere. The mining of stone did give him a defensive edge when his opponent counter attacked.

Yes. He also lost two vills in the tower rush (not one) and yes he did damage thanks to his dock, but if he wasn't Poles there was no way he was going to hit Castle at about the same time as his opponent, especially since his opponent had military units and Daut had 0. Those archers and man at arms would have been a paaaaaaaaaaaain.

Also, he had to invest a lot of wood into those docks and fire ships. And fire ships don't do anything once you've won the pond.

Looks to me like stone alone without mining gold isn't the way to win or very risky at least.

If Daut hadn't tower rushed he would have won even faster. Just use the stone to tower defensively right off the bat Also, he did tower rush without any military units like militia or something. That IS risky, always.

Why would you make light cav instead of knights?

Because is cheaper and is a great way to ditcth the massive food surplus

More town centres for more villagers for more gold to make more knights?

I can't see many reasons to use light cav over knights. But people make strategic blunders all the time.

to play poles use folwarks like crazy and for every 2 stone miners you can send 1 gold miner to farm compared to any other civ

People use knights all the time for raiding. In fact in every match I've played against a cavalry civ, They do one of two things. Go scouts into knights, no light cav. Go fast castle and knights. Why would this be any different for Poles who after a research pay 30g per knight.

i am not saying to go light cav, just saying is a great way to ditch food and blob the map killing vill
