I played a 4v4 with Magyars earlier this week, and I agree with you.

Our team was losing. The enemy was pressing forward on all sides. They had overwhelming archer spam in the centre of the map.

Suddenly, I made a move that turned the tide!

I decided to go on the attack into their base, with a large force of Magyar hussars. I charged forward on the flank, ignoring all obstacles. I smashed down his pallisade gate, and ran past his two castles, into the centre of his base.

My Magyar hussars destroyed his three town centres and massacred all his villagers. They then spread into the next guy's base, and one by one they all fell like dominoes.

It was a total massacre. Although the enemy players still had large armies in the centre of the map, their economies had been obliterated. My allies were then able to slowly mop them up.

It was a totally war winning move. It's the only time I've played Magyars, and I was not disappointed.

My best game on Arabia is with Magyars. I totally dominated that match and it was the most memorable match for me. I want my game to be exactly like that one, but I couldn't. Maybe I made the right moves, and it is all about the moves. Every game I try to repeat that, and I fail. But ultimately I have a comparatively better success rate with Magyars, then probably Huns or Franks in the same cavalry opening civs category.

What makes them good is the cheap Scouts with +1 attack in feudal. That free blacksmith upgrade allows you to spawn 2 additional scouts. That same bonus is useful in castle age as well.

Magyar main here. Flanking for an eco rush is the play to make as some have mentioned already. But easily countered with halbs or camels. Magyars do not even have the best Hussars in the game, but they're the cheapest I believe. Many civs have Hussar, this strategy doesn't have to be Magyar specific.

Malay. Nothing beats charging the opponent with lots of bloodthirsty, screaming two-handed swordsmen.

Depends on map and gamemode. Majority of people's reference point is 1v1 Arabia, which sure, is popular, but that's not all there is in this game. On 1v1 Arabia I think 3 worst civs WR wise are Turks, Italians and Portuguese, well in teamgames Turks are likely doing quite a bit better while Italians and Portuguese are great on Islands, with Italians probably being the best overall water civ.

Turks is still Okay. those scouts auto upgrade to light cav is a good bonus, considering your attack begins with scouts because that's all the civ offers in terms of early attack.

Most of the civs are fairly balanced and have certain windows that they can do alot of damage most of how good a civ is the situation it is in. after all there are those who play this competively and they play alot of the civs most of the times i have seen most if not all in torments in the last year, the player who was considers best in the world for some years Known as "the viper " has said Vietnamese are the best arena civ since they got buffed a few months ago. the best knight civ is franks because they have more hp on there knights when fully upgraded but they are not a counter to a camel civ like saracens. another example is that britons have the best archers because they get +1 range each age and there unique unit has 12 range when fully upgraded in imperial age but they can really struggle against goth at that stage of the game because the goth huscal is very rersistance to arrow fire and they also can really stuggle against seige ram and skirms you don't see turks or tuetons much in pro 1v1 because they are fairly slow civs but can really do well in a black forest or arena setting they also are used alot more in team games. to say one civ is really better than another is not really true as each has slightly diffences and require to be played differently after all in a recent tornament it started in fudal age and there was serval saracen picks because of there market bonus and the could end up in an extremly fast castle and there has been talk about nerfing the market for them a bit. the hardest civs for a new player are probaly incas aztecs and myans as these lack horses but get eagle worriors instead so play quite diferently to most of the other civs.
